Review

This was a bad tempered and ugly match which saw six bookings and the fans bombing the pitch with cans.
Latchford cost Celtic both goals early on with poor handling, leaving a mountain to climb. In the first minute he dropped the ball and Harper prodded it on for Davidson to finish.
From that point Celtic piled on the pressure without scoring. They had a perfectly good penalty claim ignored. With Aberdeen retreating into defense the tackling was fierce with no prisoners taken. Latchford was fooled for the second and allowed a looping Steve Archibald header to sail over his head and in. Jarvie was the first in the book followed by MacDonald. Alfie Conn and Steve Archibald followed and Danny McGrain was booked for wrestling the ball from Davidson to take a free kick. At the end Johnny Doyle was involved in a heated argument with referee Foote coming off at full time and was booked. And as the players trooped off the ground at full time fists flew in the tunnel with players of both sides involved.

The arrival of Lennox at the start of the second half sparked a fightback. He pulled one back on 64 minutes and had another claim for a penalty for handball ruled out. Lennox had an equaliser ruled out with 3 minutes to play for offside.
