Review

A win for Celtic would have virtually sealed the league title but Aberdeen's win now threw the title chase wide open on a sunny, spring day at Parkhead

Celtic did not carry good fortune. McAdam was carried off after a clash of heads in the first half, with Aitken having to move back into defence from midfield. This unsettled both the back four and the midfield with them both looking uncertain for the rest of the game.

Aberdeen took the lead when McGhee rounded Latchford to set up Jarvie for a simple goal.

Celtic equalised shortly afterwards when John Doyle showed great reactions to back head a goalward MacDonald header past Clark from a Provan corner.

The Dons took the lead fortuitously when a Scanlon shot was blocked and fell perfectly to McGhee who scored with a clear shot at goal.

Drama unfolded in the 68th minute when Celtic were awarded a penalty after referee Ramsay adjudged that Clark had impeded McGarvey near the bye line. Substitute Bobby Lennox took the kick with Clark saving his tame shot easily and Celtic's best chance had gone.

At time up the league stood as follows:
