This game was only playable due to Rangers' newly installed undersoil heating system.
Celtic looked rusty after a long lay off and McNeill surprisingly chose Nicholas and McCluskey at striker with the industrious McGarvey on the bench.
In a game of few chances Celtic edged the first half and McCluskey should have done better than hit the side netting with a fine opportunity.
Rangers scored in 72 minutes when Bett scored after Bonner had brought down Cooper with a clumsy challenge.
Celtic threw McGarvey on and they showed more urgency but could not grab an equaliser.
