Match Report
From the start, Celtic had most of the pressure in this game but nothing seemed to be coming of it. As we’ve seen so often this season, they were capable of playing good football but the ball just wasn’t going into the net.
Tommy Burns, in great form pushed Celtic forward during the first half and chance after chance produced no result. There were near things but the ball never hit the net.
Dundee did, however, give the Celtic support a bit of a fright. On the break they got up to the Celtic goal and as Walker McCall headed a Ray Stephen cross towards goal Danny McGrain got on to the line to head it away.
In the second half Celtic looked a bit more dangerous as they continued to pile on the pressure and in the 67th minute they scored the only goal of the game.
As Frank McGarvey moved into the Dundee box he was fouled by Stephen and fell to the ground. Immediately the referee awarded a penalty and Mark Reid made no mistake with the spot kick.
There were some flare ups among the players during this game which was very loosely handled by the referee. At the end of the day Glennie, Mackie and Fraser of Dundee, and Reid, Burns and McGrain of Celtic were all booked.
The McGrain booking was a strange incident during which most of the crowd expected Fraser to be sent off with a second booking for pushing the Celtic skipper while play was stopped. After consulting his linesman, though, the referee decided to book the Celt instead.1-0 Dundee 83
