Review

Celtic were entitled to be well satisfied with a splendid performance.

They were undoubtedly the better side and had Frank McGarvey put two excellent chances into the net then Celtic would have had the result their play merited. Leighton saved from McGarvey within 30 seconds but a minute later Aberdeen were unlucky when a 20 yard drive from Strachan crashed off the bar.

In 20 minutes McMaster failed to clear properly, allowing McStay to send over a low cross which was dummied by McClair but McGarvey, only 15 yards out, did not connect with enough power and Leighton made the save.

Leighton remained the busier keeper in the second half as Celtic continued to dominate the game and the tie remained poised for the second leg at Parkhead on March 10th.
