Trivia

  • Mick McCarthy missing again with the calf strain that forced him out of Saturday's win over Aberdeen
  • Derek Whyte plays with a broken nose
  • With injury worries over McCarthy, Whyte and Anton Rogan, Lex Baillie is on the bench and makes his debut as a second half substitute for Whyte
  • Falkirk's substitute, John Stuart, was himself hooked after 15 minutes to be replaced by Alex Rae. Youngster Stuart had just joined from Junior side Musselburgh and boss Dave Clarke explained he had been giving the ball away too much and it wasn't fair on his team mates

Review

A comfortable win in the end for Celtic, who did enough to win with a bigger margin. The first 45 minutes was frustrating and Derek Whyte had to come off at half time, to be replaced by Lex Baillie who made a solid debut. Andy Walker opened the scoring with his 20th goal of the season and Paul McStay sealed the win in the closing minutes with a powerful drive from outside the box. The result saw Celtic open up a two point lead over Hearts and Aberdeen heading into the festive period.
