Review

Simply not good enough , however Kilmarnock playing everybody behind the ball didnt help. We needed to shoot from outside the area more often and hope the keeper bundles for someone to tap in. Midfeild didnt look like it wanted to have a go. Killie stayed tight and let us go down the sides.

We had loads of the ball, chances just not clear cut ones. Should have been ahead in the first half.

Rogne played well, Brown done well when he came on, Izzy done ok always seemed to get the ball not much from the other side. Forrest had a stinker, Murphy should have scored.

Rogne strikes late to snatch point for Celtic

By Alistair Watson (AFP) – 34 minutes ago
GLASGOW — Celtic blew the chance to top the Scottish Premier League as they needed a late Thomas Rogne goal to snatch a 1-1 draw with Kilmarnock at Parkhead on Tuesday.
It was the Hoops' third successive draw in the league at home and means rivals Rangers top the league at Christmas by two points despite their game against Dundee United being postponed due to the weather.
Killie hadn't won at Celtic Park in 55 years but Connor Sammon gave them hope when he fired them into a 54th minute lead completely against the run of play.
The Ayrshire side desperately hung on to their lead until the 86th minute when Rogne headed Ki Sung-Yeung's free-kick home to grab a point as Celtic were left ruing a host of missed opportunities in both halves.
Kilmarnock named an unchanged side from the one which defeated Hibernian on Saturday while Celtic welcomed back Emilio Izaguirre and James Forrest for their first game in 24 days, played in subzero conditions in a sparsely populated Parkhead.
After their long enforced break the Celtic players were raring to get going and put Kilmarnock under pressure from the start when Niall McGinn's shot was held by Cammy Bell.
The Hoops had the ball in the net in the eighth minute when Gary Hooper converted from Joe Ledley's lofted pass but it was ruled out for offside.
Celtic cranked up the pressure but their stars conspired to miss a host of chances to open the scoring. A Hooper pass sent McGinn clear but he fired his shot off Bell's legs before Izaguirre took advantage of a loose pass on a slippery pitch to rifle in a fierce shot that stung the palms of the keeper.
Daniel Majstorovic was inches away with a header before South Korean Ki curled a free-kick just over the bar.
The home side were dealt a blow ten minutes before the break when top scorer Hooper was stretchered off to be replaced by Anthony Stokes. There was still time for the substitute to fire into the side netting as Killie somehow made it to the break on level terms.
Celtic were left to rue their missed chances just eight minutes into the second-half when Sammon gave Kilmarnock the lead with his seventh goal in eight games. The Irishman latched on to Mehdi Taouil's through ball and shrugged off Izaguirre's challenge before slotting low past Fraser Forster for his 12th goal of the season.
Celtic looked shell-shocked to find themselves behind and brought on Scott Brown and Paddy McCourt for the ineffective Ledley and McGinn.
Sammon was proving a handful for the Celtic defence and used his strength to brush off Majstorovic in the box but could only poke his effort straight to Forster.
Stokes cracked a shot over from just outside the box before Daryl Murphy missed Celtic's best chance of the half. Cha's cross was dropped by Bell and fell to the Irishman but he sent his shot on the turn over the bar.
Celtic's pressure paid off with five minutes to go when Rogne headed them level. Ki swung a free-kick from the left into the box and the Norwegian leaped highest to send an angled header off the post on its way in.
Sammon came close to snatching a late winner for Killie when he rounded Forster but Majstorovic slid to block his shot.

Celtic 1-1 Kilmarnock

Celtic missed the chance to move top of the Scottish Premier League after being held to a draw by Kilmarnock.

The home side dominated the first half but could not find a breakthrough, Niall McGinn drawing a couple of saves from Cammy Bell.

Conor Sammon's 15th goal of the season gave the visitors a surprise lead eight minutes into the second half.

But Thomas Rogne headed Celtic level with six minutes remaining and neither side could grab a winner.

The draw, Celtic's third in a row at home, means Neil Lennon's side remain two points behind Rangers, who have played a game less. Killie move to within three points of fourth-place Inverness.

Celtic, who had James Forrest and Emilio Izaguirre, back in their starting line-up following injuries, were keen to stamp their authority on the game early on with Forrest putting some dangerous crosses from the left into the Kilmarnock box.

From the other side, McGinn was also a threat, going close to scoring three times in succession.

The winger's first effort was comfortably saved by Bell but, moments later, the goalkeeper fumbled a cross and presented McGinn with another shooting chance but the Northern Ireland international fired wide.

McGinn was then put through on goal by Gary Hooper and drew a save from Bell with a low shot towards the near post.

After Izaguirre's shot was beaten out by Bell, the ball rebounded off a Kilmarnock defender and out of play but claims of a handball from the home side fell on deaf ears.
From the resulting corner, Ki Sung-Yeung's delivery was headed wide by Daniel Majstorovic.

Celtic were dealt an injury blow when Hooper went down after getting in a tangle with Frazer Wright and the striker was stretchered off to be replaced by Anthony Stokes before the rest of the first half petered out.

The home side were sluggish at the start of the second half and they were dealt a sucker punch when Killie scored the opener from a sweeping counter attack.

Bell gathered the ball from a Celtic corner and threw the ball out to Mehdi Taouil. The Moroccan released Sammon in on goal and the striker kept his cool to fire past Fraser Forster and into the net.

Celtic looked to respond with a series of corners and crosses into the box but Kilmarnock's stout defending kept their lead intact.

And the Ayrshire side remained a threat on the break and Sammon poked a shot wide after putting Majstorovic under pressure.

Manager Lennon made further changes by introducing club captain Scott Brown from the bench at the expense of Joe Ledley and replacing McGinn with Paddy McCourt.

Stokes carved out a shot from distance but could not keep his powerful effort down and Daryl Murphy also cleared the crossbar after getting the break of the ball in the Killie penalty box with the goal gaping.

But Celtic kept up the pressure and Jamie Hamill's foul on Izaguirre gave the hosts a free-kick, from which Ki crossed to Rogne, who headed into the net via the post.

As the match moved into injury time, Killie mounted another breakaway and Sammon burst through and rounded Forster but the striker's cut-back was cleared by Majstorovic.

Murphy could have won it for Celtic at the death but headed over after being found by Stokes's cross.
