Trivia[Untitled]

  • Record breaking time. Forster breaks record for longest spell in Scottish league history without conceding a goal. Close now to breaking UK and European record.
  • Surpasses Bobby Clark’s record of going 1,155 minutes without conceding a league goal in Scottish top-flight football
  • Fraser "Nice to get record in the end and a clean sheet. Hard place to come. Delighted
  • Bobby Clark on video message "Well done Fraser & well done to you & the Celtic team". Great touch. Btw Bobby is the Notre Dame soccer coach
  • Griffiths scores his debut Celtic goal, and he doesn't half enjoy and celebrate it (against his old local foes Hearts). Griffiths on his first Celtic goal during post match interview – “I couldn’t have picked a better place to score it.”
  • Brown, Mulgrew & James Forrest – have been named in Gordon Strachan's latest Scotland squad. Bizarrely VVD is not in Dutch squad, pathetic.
  • Aberdeen fan who called Neil Lennon a "Fenian Bastard" jailed for 10 months (+ threatening behaviour).
  • London Road Primary School (at foot of Celtic Park) is demolished on Feb 22. Old landmark is no more after over 100years.
  • Secret recordings released by the anonymous @CharlotteFakes Twitter account can be given in evidence in a £28m legal action brought by the liquidators of Oldco Rangers against last OldCo owner Craig Whyte’s former lawyers, a judge ruled. The suit against Collyer Bristow centres on claims that the legal firm, which acted for former Rangers owner
  • Craig Whyte, is partially responsible for the subsequent administration and liquidation of the company and is alleged to have been involved in conspiracy, negligence and breach of trust.
  • News increasing that Sevco possibly to enter administration this month. So fasten your seatbelts!
  • Winter Olympics last two weeks: GB/Scotland have successful curling teams in the tournament. Men won the silver medal, and the women won the bronze in their curling tournaments. Very proud of them both. Sadly a Scottish speedskater was penalised out of three speed skating runs, two very unjustly. Politics and political moves if you're cynical.

Unspectacular win, but I think we saw an example of our shortcomings on the wings when we play our diamond/4-3-1-2 formation.

Middle pair had good games, particular Biton really gets a run of convincing performances. Still not much happening in Hearts' box and most of it came off the central midfield and loads of deep crosses, although Stokes had one of his better games but especially our right side was appalling. Matthews looked miles off the pace, wasting several opportunities to break away and get into good positions while Brown is going through a rather poor run of form. Great to see Forster get his record.

Jamie Hamill really is a pathetic clown, despite gifting us two goals. Even with only one guy upfront he was still trying Pirlo-passes all over the pitch and acting like a hardman while loosing most 50/50's. Ther dispute between him & the hearts support is certainly entertaining

Excellent taken goal by Griffiths, really grafted that goal out of nowhere.

(Caltonbhoy of KDS forum)

Biton and Johansen were very good – Please don't drop either when Izzy is back.

Charlie is not a left back – The Diets were so intent on stopping us play they never put anyone with pace on to him.

Good well taken goal by Griffiths and neatly placed one from Pukki.

Twice Stokes went himself when laying off the ball should have resulted in two goals.

Well done Fraser – Been a superb signing.

Scummy Diet support was as ever scum – "One Scott Wilson" – In the name of feck is that their best shot.

Locke having a moan is laughable (straight out of the hunffries coaching book right enough) and Jamie Hamill as a footballer is also laughable.

Fraser Forster set a new Scottish top-flight clean sheet record as Celtic continued their winning streak with a 2-0 victory over Hearts at Tynecastle.

The England goalkeeper broke Bobby Clark's previous record of 1,155 minutes without conceding a league goal before Leigh Griffiths scored his first Celtic goal to seal a 15th consecutive Scottish Premiership triumph.

The former Hibernian striker and boyhood fan celebrated emphatically after finishing impressively on a 57th-minute counter-attack.

That goal proved enough although Teemu Pukki doubled the lead with the last kick of the ball.

Forster had already broken former Aberdeen goalkeeper Clark's record, which he set in the 1970-71 season, after keeping Hearts out 31 minutes into his 13th successive league shutout.

The 25-year-old did not have a shot to save in that spell, although he fumbled a 21st-minute cross from Jamie Hamill before gathering at the second attempt.

Hearts also had some pressure around the half-hour mark but Callum Paterson could not find Paul McCallum with a low cross following a promising break and the record was assured when Sam Nicholson sliced the ball behind for a goal kick after a short corner.

More surprisingly, Hearts goalkeeper Jamie MacDonald, who conceded seven goals when Celtic last visited Tynecastle, was not seriously tested either during the first half.

Brad McKay twice foiled Griffiths with crucial interventions while Anthony Stokes had a shot deflected wide from 16 yards and Scott Brown shot over from just further out on the only other first-half occasions that Celtic threatened to get in behind.

Virgil van Dijk was just off target with a 25-yard free-kick and also a header following a corner from Kris Commons, who came closest for Celtic before the break when he hit a rasping long-range strike that dipped just over.

Celtic survived a penalty appeal three minutes before the half-time whistle following Van Dijk's clumsy tackle on Paterson, referee Kevin Clancy waving appeals away.

Both goalkeepers made their first saves of the game in the opening two minutes of the second half, Forster from Ryan Stevenson's long-range strike and MacDonald from a driven free-kick by Commons.

MacDonald was forced into a more testing stop when he parried Stokes' header following a deep free-kick by Commons.

And he was soon beaten after his side were caught out on the break not long after their own corner.

Stokes won the ball in the right-back position and beat a man before sending a diagonal ball for Griffiths to chase. The January signing from Wolves shrugged off Nicholson and took the ball round Danny Wilson before firing a powerful left-footed strike across MacDonald and into the corner from 16 yards.

Griffiths, who had been taunted by the Hearts fans throughout, slid in front of a section of home fans to celebrate before sprinting towards the dugouts with his thumbs raised at another section of the home support, before embracing manager Neil Lennon.

Lennon ordered his player to calm down but Griffiths soon followed three home players in the book for a trip on Nicholson and was then replaced by Pukki with the 5-1 scoreline of Hibernian's 2012 Scottish Cup final defeat by Hearts ringing in his ears.

Hearts forward Dale Carrick, on for the injured McCallum, caused some problems for Celtic but the hosts could not threaten Forster's ongoing record and MacDonald tipped over substitute Derk Boerrigter's strike as the visitors pushed for a second.

Forster survived a scare in injury-time when he missed his punch as Dylan McGowan attacked a corner but the ball drifted across the face of goal.

And Celtic went straight up the park to kill off the contest. Amido Balde robbed Hamill on the left wing and set up Pukki to slide the ball home.

Celtic will now push for more records as they seek to finish a top-flight campaign unbeaten for the first time since the 19th century and aim for their own record of 25 consecutive league wins, which they set in 2000-01.

Griffiths 57, Pukki 90+3

FRASER Forster made history once again, breaking the Scottish league shut-out record as Celtic overcame Hearts 2-0 at Tynecastle thanks to second-half strikes from Leigh Griffiths and Teemu Pukki.

The English internationalist had already surpassed the Hoops´ 92-year-old clean sheet record at the start of the month, which had been held by the great Charlie Shaw.

And the 25-year-old has now eclipsed Bobby Clark´s long-standing milestone as he kept his 13th consecutive clean sheet in the Scottish Premiership.

Griffiths had fired Celtic in front with a stunning strike 12 minutes after the interval, a memorable way for him to open his account for the club after his January signing from Wolves.

And as the home side threw men forward as the clock ticked down, substitute Pukki punished them with an emphatic finish to seal the spoils – Celtic´s 15th league win on the spin.

Charlie Mulgrew returned to the side as Neil Lennon makes one change from the team that put St Johnstone to the sword last week, with the Scottish internationalist replacing the injured Emilio Izaguirre in the starting XI.

The match started at a typically frenetic pace but Celtic quickly assumed control of possession and patiently probed for an opening against the defensively-minded hosts who deployed 10 men behind the ball.

With the middle of the pitch so congested, the Hoops looked most likely to profit by attacking down the flanks, and Kris Commons, Mulgrew and Adam Matthews all sent in a series of inviting crosses in the opening stages without reward.

It took until the 20th minute for a Celtic player to get a clear sight of goal as Stokes fastened onto Scott Brown´s pass but the Irishman´s effort was deflected behind by a last-gasp Hearts challenge.

After Commons was caught by Jamie Hamill, Virgil van Dijk had another chance to showcase his set-piece skills but his swerving effort from 30 yards flashed wide of the post.

Former Hibernian hitman Leigh Griffiths looked determined to make an impact against his former fierce rivals, and only a last-ditch challenge from Danny Wilson thwarted the striker after he has been picked out by Stefan Johansen. Brown fired the follow up over.

It had been one-way traffic but around the half-hour mark, the home side finally emerged from their defensive shell and forced a succession of corners.

However, Celtic survived and that meant Forster had passed Bobby Clark´s long-standing Scottish league record, a fact recognised by the travelling support who rose on masse to acclaim the big Englishman.

Commons and Van Dijk both came within inches of breaking the deadlock before the break and Ryan Stevenson tested Forster with a stinging drive after the interval but a goal remained elusive for both sides.

A foul on Brown by Hamill gave Commons the chance to shoot from 20 yards but his low effort was easily scooped up by MacDonald.

The attacker´s next set-piece proved more effective, his deep delivery headed goalwards by Stokes at the far post, forcing MacDonald into an excellent save.

And in the 57th minute, the home side´s resistance was finally broken thanks to a superb solo effort from Griffiths. The striker picked up possession inside the Hearts half, evaded the clutches of both Sam Nicholson and Danny Wilson before rifling a shot into the far corner.

Commons shot wide after Stokes´ chip was only partially cleared and Ambrose almost weaved his way through the entire Hearts defence after a trademark solo run as the Hoops looked to kill off the contest.

Van Dijk was next to bomb forward from the back but the Dutchman´s final effort was blocked after he collected Teemu Pukki´s return pass.

Without the security of a second goal, the Edinburgh side still had hope, however, and substitute Dale Carrick threatened on a couple of occasions without ever troubling Forster.

Substitute Derk Boerrigter nearly scored with his first touch before Hearts caused a scare when a high ball launched into the box hit the woodwork.

However, deep into stoppage time, Pukki finished with conviction following terrific work from Amido Balde to bank another three points for the Bhoys, stretching their unbeaten league record this season to an incredible 26 games.

Manager hails record-breaking Forster

By: Mark Henderson on 22 Feb, 2014 18:54

NEIL Lennon has heaped praise on goalkeeper Fraser Forster after he broke the long-standing Scottish league record for successive shut-outs in today’s 2-0 triumph away to Hearts.

The English internationalist kept his 13th consecutive clean sheet at Tynecastle, and in the process he eclipsed Bobby Clark´s 1,155- minute record without conceding a goal, set 43 years ago.

It was the second time Forster had made history this month, having already surpassed Celtic’s consecutive league clean sheet record which had been held by goalkeeping great Charlie Shaw.

Speaking after the game, the manager said: “I’m delighted and very proud of the players and very proud of Fraser. It’s a fantastic achievement – the 43-year record broken has been broken.

“And it’s 43-years for a reason as it’s a very difficult thing to do, so it’s a huge feather in everyone’s cap and a very proud day.”

It was highlight of another excellent day for the Hoops as they notched up their 15th Scottish Premiership win on the spin and extended their unbeaten league record this season to 26 games.

Leigh Griffiths’ stunning strike – his first Celtic goal – and a late Teemu Pukki counter sealed maximum reward for the Scottish champions, stretching their lead at the top of the table to 24 points.

And the Hoops boss was thrilled to see Griffiths opening his Celtic account in such spectacular style.

“It was a great goal and I was delighted,” he said. “He’s a hard worker, a good pro and it was a brilliant finish, and that’s the reason why we bought him here as he has got those goals in his makeup.

"But I have been pleased with his all-round contribution so far and it’s a great way to start a Celtic career. It meant a lot to him. We remain unbeaten in the league which is also very important.”

Celtic extended their lead at the top of the Premiership table to 24 points with victory against Hearts.

Leigh Griffiths netted his first goal since arriving from Wolves in January with a superb second-half strike.

And, in the final minute of added time, Teemu Pukki converted Amido Balde's square pass to secure the win.

Earlier in the match, Bobby Clark's league record of 1,115 minutes without conceding a goal was broken by Celtic goalkeeper Fraser Forster.

The England cap has not conceded a Scottish Premiership goal since November and Neil Lennon's league leaders are now unbeaten in 29 top-flight matches, a record stretching back to last season.

Hearts remain rooted to the foot of the table on just six points but can take some consolation from holding Celtic for much of the opening hour.

The visitors had the better opportunities, though, and caused problems from the early stages.

Charlie Mulgrew's cross from the left put the Hearts defence under pressure, but Anthony Stokes failed to meet the ball inside the six-yard box.

Former Hibernian striker Griffiths, on his first trip back to the capital, made an impressive solo run down the right, but could not make the final ball count.

When Kris Commons was felled on the edge of the Hearts penalty area, Virgil van Dijk stepped up to fire in the free-kick but his shot edged wide of Jamie MacDonald's right-hand post.

Moments later, a Griffiths shot from was 18 yards was blocked by Danny Wilson, then Scott Brown pounced on the rebound but sent his long-range effort over the crossbar.

Hearts had a chance to prevent Forster from breaking Clark's record when Callum Paterson tried to set up Paul McCallum inside the penalty area, but the Englishman failed to make up the distance and instead conceded a foul.

It was a rare foray forward for the hosts but, as half-time approached, Paterson expressed frustration that referee Kevin Clancy failed to award Hearts a penalty. However, replays demonstrated he was brought down by his own team-mate.

Celtic's relentless pressure was rewarded near the hour mark when Griffiths found the net with a fine solo effort, turning Wilson inside-out before firing in a left-footed shot across the helpless MacDonald.

Dale Carrick's powerful drive from the edge of the Celtic penalty area was blocked by Nir Biton, and the substitute was unlucky with two efforts in quick succession as Hearts searched in vain for a leveller.

Celtic remained a threat, though. Commons contrived to send another shot wide of the mark then Derk Boerrigter's side-footed shot from six yards was denied by a fine MacDonald save.

Forster experienced a few nervous moments before confirming his 13th consecutive league clean sheet but the final say was left to Pukki, who was handed a golden opportunity by fellow substitute Balde and slotted calmly past MacDonald from the middle of the penalty area.
