Trivia

  • Celtic win and remain on top.
  • Next week is international week annoyingly.
  • Sadly, Sinclair's run to break the Jimmy McGrory record of debut run of goal-scoring in games ends here. So six in his first six league games. Still a fine record.
  • Les Blues boss Didier Deschamps has confirmed he is monitoring the in-form Celtic star, Moussa Dembele.
  • Popular online Celtic 'Napoleon_Celt', Iain Tarbes, has passed away. RIP.
  • Celtic have been fined £8615 by UEFA for "illicit banners" vs Hapoel Be'er Sheva, it means fans have matched this via #MatchTheFineForPalestine 20 times over
  • Sad news. A bus full of Sevco fans was in an roadside accident, and sadly there was to time of writing one fatality. RIP.
  • Scouts from Arsenal and Bayern Munich joined Real Madrid in watching Celtic striker Moussa Dembele during the recent Champions League clash with Manchester City.
  • Sevco have hit out at the Scottish Football Association after both themselves and Hibernian escaped punishment over the William Hill Scottish Cup final pitch invasion. We all laughed at them, they were the guilty party.
  • Ex-Celt assistant manager Eric Black in trouble, caught up in a newspaper sting where he gave advice on how to bribe referees. Obviously never did it whilst at Celtic (the John Barnes reign) as we were mince!

Review

(Henry C of KDS)[Untitled]

Business-like performance to achieve the main objective of collecting another three points.
Good, professional display by everyone.
Dembélé was unlucky not to score with his hitch-kick attempt. I think his standing foot slipped on the turf just as he was making contact with the ball. Gordon is giving the impression that his focus is spot on even though he only had bread and butter stuff to deal with all afternoon. The Dundee goalie also looked pretty competent and steady.
Brown was in his element today and deserved to be the match winner.

Everything about the team is developing positively at the moment and it's a pest that the momentum of the progress will now be interrupted by the international break.

(Govan Super C of KDS)
I'll take that, crap game but after a CL game any win will do.

They're really well organised at the back and a handful going forward. We struggled to break them down but didn't let them trouble Gordon apart from crosses.

3 points and on to the next one.

Dundee 0-1 Celtic: Scott Brown strike secures Hoops win

Scott Brown's second-half strike gave Celtic a narrow but deserved 1-0 Ladbrokes Premiership win over Dundee at Dens Park.

Brendan Rodgers side went into the game on the back of an epic 3-3 home draw with Manchester City in the Champions League on Wednesday night and unsurprisingly they dipped below that level on Tayside.

After a goalless first 45 minutes rampaging midfielder Brown broke the deadlock two minutes after the restart when he scored with a close-range drive.

The win keeps Celtic clear at the top of the table while Dundee, for all their effort, continue to struggle, having not won in the league since the opening day of the season.

Looking to amend that poor run of form, Dark Blues boss Paul Hartley made four changes with Danny Williams, Cammy Kerr, Kevin Gomis and Yordi Teijsse coming into the side.

Celtic stopper Jozo Simunovic came in for veteran defender Kolo Toure.

After a minute's applause in tribute to former Dundee player Alan Cousin who passed away recently aged 78 after a short illness, Celtic started with purpose.

Dens Park keeper Scott Bain keeper made his first save of the afternoon from Hoops forward Scott Sinclair in the eighth minute when threw himself to his left to push curling shot from 20 yards past the post, before clutching Tom Rogic's corner with confidence.

There followed a penalty appeal when Dundee full-back Kerr, booked earlier for a foul on Rogic, tackled Hoops centre-back Erik Sviatchenko in the home side's penalty area but referee Andrew Dallas was unimpressed.

The visitors' grip on the game was firm.

Bain pulled a 25-yard free-kick from Rogic out of the air at his top left-hand corner in the 22nd minute and then made a good save at point-blank range from Sinclair, although Dallas blew for offside.

Three minutes from the break, in a rare Dundee foray, Fassal El Bakhtaoui's cross was headed over at the near post by Teijsse but in added time Bain thwarted Sinclair again before Parkhead striker Moussa Dembele lofted the ball over.

It was Brown who showed how it should be done just after the break when, after getting the ball after initially setting up Dembele in the box, he curled the ball with his left foot into the far corner.

Celtic kept pushing for a second and in the 68th minute Sinclair had another effort, this time a low drive saved by Bain.

Leigh Griffiths and Patrick Roberts had come on for Rogic and aames Forrest respectively, adding fresh legs to a Celtic side looking fatigued, but while the second goal did not arrive, Dundee failed to test Gordon at the other end.

Scott Brown scores
Brown (far right) netted for the second time this season

Captain Scott Brown ensured Scottish Premiership leaders Celtic went into the international break with another three points at Dundee.

Celtic dominated the first half without reward, Scott Sinclair having two efforts saved well by Scott Bain.

But Brown found a way through early in the second half, lashing in a loose ball with his left foot from close in.

Sinclair tested Bain again after the break while stubborn Dundee only fleetingly threatened.

They remain on six points while Celtic maintain their four-point advantage over Aberdeen.
Subdued Celtic

Celtic had vast tracts of possession but, for once, they were not sharp enough to convert mountains of ball into mountains of goals, as they have done so often domestically this season.

Their European exploits in midweek – the 3-3 draw with Manchester City – took a lot out of them, for sure.

Their hosts offered little threat themselves but they were focused at the back.

That will give Paul Hartley some encouragement in difficult times. Celtic were dominant but this was a day when Sinclair's goal rush – one in each of the past six league games – was halted, when Moussa Dembele failed to threaten and when Leigh Griffiths and Patrick Roberts, off the bench, could not add to Brown's goal.

Brown leads the way

This was far more mundane fare for the Celtic captain compared to the stellar cast list he came up against on Wednesday, but Brown was as tuned in and as professional against Dundee as he was against City.

He was the one who broke Dundee's resistance and that was appropriate because he was the best player on the field until that point. Celtic were not anywhere close to their best, but Brown did what needed to be done.

Having been held goalless in the opening half – the first time that has happened in the league this season – Celtic probed and Dembele did great work to create the moment from which Brown scored. When the ball broke loose from the striker's attempt on goal, it was Brown who was there to drive home.

Long road for Dundee

This was Dundee's seventh game without a win, a run that has brought just three points from a possible 21. That's bottom-two stuff, if it continues.

It is not hard to have some sympathy for Hartley, though. His team defended pretty well, but he does not have much in front of goal.

For all of Faissal El Bakhtaoui and Yordi Teijsse's work-rate, they cannot be expected to fill the giant boots of the departed Kane Hemmings and Greg Stewart.

El Bakhtaoui and Teijsee have scored just one league goal between them this term. Their only chance against Celtic was a tame close-range header from Teijsse.

At this point last season, Hemmings and Stewart had seven. They scored 30 in the league overall – 56% of Dundee's total. Hartley has a seismic job on his hands to fill that void.

Match ends, Dundee 0, Celtic 1.
