Trivia

  • FIFA Best Football Awards – 'Best Fans of the Year'
  • Celtic were awarded the FIFA Best Fans Award for 2017! An incredible achievement, mainly based on the incredible Lisbon Lions tribute banner. Beat off Copenhagen & Dortmund for the award.
  • Jim Spence (Scottish journalist): “I think many of us are learning to love our game again. For all its imperfections there’s a certain honesty about the football these days. Standard is what it is, but there’s an excitement that’s contagious.”
  • Back to the league
  • Big game as both equal on 23 points going into the game after 9 matches with Celtic ahead on goal difference, Celtic +16, Aberdeen +10.
  • Celtic thru to the League Cup final last weekend with M’well the opponents.
  • Celtic now on top clear by three points.
  • Brendan Rodgers has called for greater appreciation of his players’ abilities as they close in on equalling Celtic’s own all-time UK undefeated record in domestic matches. 61 domestic games undefeated now.
  • Regarded as our best performance of the season, wonderful play with two fabulous goals by Dembele & Tierney.
  • Are Dembele & Tierney becoming world class? It's moving that way.
  • Sevco drop pts in a 1-1 draw. Comical last 2mins, Sevco got a penalty their man got in a scrap with an ex-Deidco player, the Sevco player got sent off. Sevco then missed their penalty which would have rubbed it into Killie, then Killie raced to the other end of the pitch and scored in the 94th min.
  • Tottenham Hotspur have stepped up their interest in Kieran Tierney after it was revealed the North London club sent scouts to watch the player in action against Bayern Munich.
  • The likelihood of ex-Celt David Moyes becoming the next manager of Scotland may soon be greatly diminished after it emerged he’s a contender to return to former club Everton. He was a favourite for the Celtic manager’s job before Rodgers stepped in.
  • Celtic were awarded theFIFABest FansAward for 2017! An incredible achievement, mainly based on the incredible Lisbon Lions tribute banner. Beat off Copenhagen & Dortmund for the award.
  • Celtic fined 10,000 euros by UEFA for the idiot fan running on pitch v PSG (but thankfully missing his kick on the PSG player). PSG fined 5000 euros for damaging seats. Could have been much worse. So no stand closure, no huge fine, no closed doors match. We have a guardian angel somewhere it seems.
  • Celtic have criticised the Offensive Behaviour at Football Act, saying the legislation is counter-productive and has deteriorated the relationship between fans and the police. Celtic were the only club to respond to requests for written submissions as Holyrood collects evidence for the bill to scrap the act. The club said to even believe that “certain songs and chants” are more prevalent now than they were before the legislation.
  • Celtic have agreed a deal with Swedish firm Mr Green to become the club’s new casino partner. We were’t aware the club needed one.

ReviewAberdeen 0 Celtic 3

(bmh of KDS)

Like a few I was a bit nervous that it'd be tight and knacker us out but by god was I wrong

That's a team that rose to the challenge beautifully

They looked like they loved that

Fair play to Willie Miller too -very complimentary about the standard we played and got tore into chick young about souness before the game

(Markybhoy of KDS)
We did to them what Bayern did to us. TBF it should rub off on our players when they see how the elite teams play and despite many media 'experts' being surprised how well we perform after a European match, it's not a huge surprise to me.

KT – absolutely immense. What a finish and what a cross. Should've been played in late on in the match rather than McGregor(?) having a shot that was never really on.
Dembele – looked far sharper than he has at any point this season. Bullied their back line mercilessly and did what good strikers do.
Brown – bossed that match. Nuff said.
Rogic – They must be sick of the sight of him. Loved it when they had a man on him and he was getting shoved and pulled to try and put him off but he didn't even just take the easy route and lay the ball off. He won his physical battles and then made the pass. Lovin yer work Tam.

Am gonna mention Armstrong and have a slight pop at him. His passing is truly woeful but his link up play and running on and off the ball is excellent. Focus on that Stu and work on your 5 yard passing.

Loved that match. Thought we looked a bit confused for the first 5 mins but after that it seemed to click. 2017-10-25: Aberdeen 0-3 Celtic, SP - The Celtic Wiki

Aberdeen 0-3 Celtic: Hoops cruise to comprehensive win

STEPHEN HALLIDAY

Published: 22:21 Wednesday 25 October 2017
On an evening when Aberdeen had hoped to prove there just might be a Premiership title race worthy of the name this season, Celtic delivered a performance which left no-one in any doubt they remain very much in a league of their own in Scottish football.
On paper, this was a top of the table showdown between notional rivals who had made identical unbeaten starts to the campaign. In reality, it was simply the night when Celtic stepped on the accelerator and opened up a gap which is only likely to become a yawning chasm yet again over the coming weeks and months.

Moussa Dembele made it two doubles in as many matches with the second and third goals at Pittodrie. Picture: SNS Group
Kieran Tierney’s opener inside the first quarter of an hour was followed by Moussa Dembele’s double either side of half-time. Had Celtic been more ruthless in front of goal, the margin of victory could have been even more sobering for Aberdeen.
As is his mantra, Brendan Rodgers continues to write his own history as Celtic manager. Their unbeaten domestic run now stands at 61 matches, just one short of equalling the all-time record set by the legendary Willie Maley’s side from 1915 to 1917.
The appetite of Rodgers’ players to set new standards of domination in Scottish football appears insatiable. It may still be October, but the chants of ‘We’ve won the league again, fly the flag’ from the jubilant Celtic fans were as much rooted in reality as a sense of mischief.
After an opening 10 minute spell which offered the home support in a sell-out crowd what proved to be false encouragement, Aberdeen found themselves under the spell of the confident and assured champions.

Kieran Tierney celebrates scoring the opener. The left back also notched an assist for Dembele's first goal. Picture: SNS Group
Craig Gordon had to make a couple of saves, both of the routine variety, from Graeme Shinnie in those initial stages as the Dons captain attempted to force his team onto the front foot.
But from the moment Tierney gave Celtic their 13th minute breakthrough, the visitors exerted almost total control of proceedings. The goal saw Kari Arnason caught flat-footed as Dembele burst past him down the right.
The French striker fired the ball low across the face of the penalty area where Callum McGregor arrived just too late to get a touch to it. Instead, it was seized on the left edge of the area by Tierney who smashed a terrific shot high beyond Joe Lewis, the ball thumping off the underside of the crossbar on its way into the net.
Aberdeen appeared spooked by the setback and Celtic were suddenly enjoying all the time and space they could wish for as they wove neat patterns of sustained possession across the excellent Pittodrie playing surface.

Tom Rogic, who has been a consistent thorn in Aberdeen’s side over the past 12 months or so, was an exceptional exponent of the fine movement on display from Rodgers’ men. The big Aussie jinked his way in from the right to force Lewis into a fine save as Celtic upped the tempo.
Arnason was booked for a clumsy foul on Rogic on the edge of the penalty area and Stuart Armstrong clipped the free-kick narrowly wide of Lewis’ right hand post.
It was as fluent and effective as Celtic have looked this season and Rogic threatened again when, after a sweeping move involving James Forrest, Armstrong and Tierney, his shot from a tight angle was held by Lewis.
But Lewis was left helpless when Celtic doubled their lead six minutes before the interval. The outstanding Tierney was the provider on this occasion, the left-back making Aberdeen right-back Shay Logan look foolish as he skipped beyond him and whipped over a low cross which Dembele bundled home from close range at the back post.
Celtic were in no mood to loosen their grip as they resumed after the break fully focused on the pursuit of more goals. Barely 30 seconds into the second half, Armstrong almost made it 3-0 when he glided in from the left and forced Lewis into a decent save.
Aberdeen were struggling to break up Celtic’s rhythm and establish any attacking momentum of their own. They threatened briefly when Arnason’s glancing header from their first corner of the night flashed across the Celtic six-yard box, but they were soon being forced back again.
Rogic should have done better than screw a shot wide after being set up by Mikael Lustig, then McGregor and Dembele contrived to get in each other’s way when a close range tap-in beckoned, allowing Arnason to make a goal-line clearance.
McInnes replaced the anonymous Adam Rooney with Scott Wright but before the young striker could make any impact, Aberdeen conceded the third goal in the 63rd minute. Scott McKenna was booked for a cynical foul on Dembele wide on the left. Armstrong floated in the free-kick which was nodded back across the six yard box by Dedryck Boyata for Dembele to apply the simplest of finishing touches.
The scale of the challenge facing Aberdeen and any of Celtic’s domestic opponents was emphasised in the closing stages when Rodgers was able to introduce substitutes of the calibre of Jonny Hayes, Scott Sinclair and Leigh Griffiths into the fray.
The final whistle came as a relief for Aberdeen who can now refocus their efforts on simply seeking to become the best of the rest again.

Scottish Premiership highlights: Aberdeen 0-3 Celtic

Moussa Dembele scored twice as holders Celtic eased to victory over closest challengers Aberdeen to move three points clear at the top of the table.

Aberdeen's Graeme Shinnie had a couple of early shots on target, but thereafter it was all Celtic.

Kieran Tierney blasted in off the crossbar from a Dembele cross and then roles were reversed for the Frenchman to add the second.

Dembele headed the third after the break from close range.

Celtic's sixth straight league victory over the Dons was indicative of their dominance in recent fixtures between the sides.

It not only ended the Dons' unbeaten league run at 11 games but also stretched Celtic's own sequence without defeat to 61 domestic games.

In that epic run in domestic football, Brendan Rodgers' side have won games in all sorts of different ways; grinds (not too many), cakewalks (quite a few), but there is a separate category for matches such as this, an occasion when their opponents sensed blood only to find out pretty quickly that the only bleeding was being done by themselves.

Celtic were up for this, that much was obvious very early on. The Dons had a few nice moments through Shinnie in the opening minutes, but once the visitors found their rhythm, this was Celtic at their exhilarating, unplayable best.

We expected a close-run thing, but we got a footballing slaughter and it started in earnest in the 13th minute when Celtic went ahead.

Dembele, a colossal influence on the night, ran down the side of Kari Arnason and put a ball across the Aberdeen six-yard box, where Tierney was bursting a gut to get on the end of it.

The full-back's venomous finish from a tight angle was outstanding, the aesthetic all the better for the ball finding the net off the underside of the crossbar.

At that point, Celtic took on the mantle of freewheeling tormentors.

Celtic's Kieran Tierney celebrates scoring against Aberdeen

Kieran Tierney opened the scoring with a stunning finish

Their movement and accuracy was too much – way too much – for Aberdeen, who became utterly confused as to what to do about the runners in their midst.

Callum McGregor, Tom Rogic, James Forrest and Stuart Armstrong all had a feast of quality possession – and they were all in the mood to do plenty with it.

Celtic's second was created by Tierney, who sprinted past the befuddled Shay Logan and then delivered a sumptuous cross to Dembele, who had no trouble in doubling the lead.

Aberdeen were shellshocked. Watched by a full house, this had become a nightmare for them.

The gaps in their defence, their inability to hold on to what ball they had and the total absence of anything up front came as a crushing disappointment for the home fans. Celtic, meanwhile, revelled in it.

Moving fluidly and almost unhindered, they created chance upon chance.

Forrest hit the side-netting just before the break, Armstrong went close just after. McGregor had a shot blocked, Rogic wasted a great chance then Arnason had to pull off a fantastic block to keep Celtic at bay again.

There was no greater certainty than a third goal for Rodgers team – and it was Dembele who got it. Armstrong's free-kick carried to Dedryck Boyota to the right of Aberdeen's six-yard box, the defender heading back across goal for Dembele to put it away.

It was a moment that captured Aberdeen's frazzled mental state, a soft concession in the middle of a harrowing night that dismantled their concentration and their confidence. Like a beaten boxer wanting the bell, the Dons needed the final whistle, but there was a lot more of this game to be played.

The crumb of comfort for Aberdeen was that they didn't concede again. They had a claim for a penalty, but much like their hopes for victory, it was waved away.

With their good form coming into this, Aberdeen laid down a challenge to the champions, a challenge they met with their most impressive performance of the season and, for a coruscating hour, one of the best of the Rodgers' era.
