After they scored an admittedly excellent goal early goal, Celtic were under pressure, needing an equally excellent long-range goal by Turnbull to pull Celtic back in. However, Turnbull then missed a VAR awarded penalty coming off the post, with a second & third chance from rebounds not going in either. The first half wasn’t very convincing, but it was the surprise performance of Yang who give the side a filip. The second half, led by Yang, showed some good movement but little went well in front of goal, until Oh very late on grabbed a goal, and then Kyogo could have sealed the match when one-on-one v the goalkeeper but it was saved. Their goalkeeper had a good game.
Whatever, three pts, and keeps Celtic ahead in the table by 5pts. That’s all the mattered.

It is rare to hear a Celtic Park crowd whistling for the full-time whistle. But the Scottish champions’ struggles to see off an impressively robust St Mirren, meant the shrill that signalled their 2-1 victory was greeted practically with a round of yeehaws.

The sounds would have been altogether different were it not for the musicality in the 83rd minute move that claimed them their victory. Dancing beats as they had struggled to drum up in the second 45 to the fore in Kyogo Furuhashi sliding through to substitute Odin Holm. The Norwegian smoothly picking up the baton and quickly sending fellow late arrival Oh Hyeon-gyu through on goal for the Korean striker to earn a first goal of the campaign by unleashing a master-blaster of a drive that could bulge the net so emphatically it could have been accompanied by crashing cymbals.
The soundtrack of the night wasn’t quite as expected in a number of respects. Celtic’s banning of the Green Brigade had led to the story on many news sites being accompanied by a deserted standing section. Yet, the near 2,000 capacity north curve, as it is known, was still three-quarters full because the ultras group accounts for only 200 of the season tickets in the area.
If the Celtic support at large had concerns over the absence of a noise-generating faction that have sought to present themselves as political marytrs, these were quickly trumped by Rodgers’ decision to rest Cameron Carter-Vickers owing to his heavy schedule since he recently returned from an extended period out. Inside seven minutes, in fact. St Mirren then demonstrating precisely why they have enjoyed their best start to a season since 1922-23 to highlight the importance of Celtic’s US international centre-back.
Greg Kiltie produced a peach of a curling cross from the right but the ease with which Conor McMenamin could nod it past Joe Hart – for his first St Mirren goal – could be attributed to the home side’s backline pairing of Nat Phillips and Liam Scales proving nowhere in the vicinity. The adeptness of Robinson’s side in switching from 5-4-1 to a more progressive 3-5-2 seemed to have Celtic struggling to find their rhythm…with the home fans reserving their displeasure for any moves that broke down at the feet of rare starters David Turnbull and James Forrest.
The moaning wasn’t lost on the former come the 18th minute when curled a glorious effort into the top corner from 22 yards and celebrated by sticking fingers in his ears. It was unfortunate for Turnbull that, with VAR alerting referee John Beaton that Alex Gogic had handled in the area 11 minutes later, he would have been left wanting to stick needles in his eyes after cracking his spot-kick against the upright. Before keeper Zach Hemming made sure St Mirren did not squander the let-off by superbly blocking Luis Palma’s thumping drive from the rebound.
Hemming continued in this fashion for the rest of the first period as Celtic laid siege to the visitors’ goal without breaching it. For much of the second period, even as they marinated in possession, Rodgers’ side could not produce the concoction to down St Mirren. Until the special brew late on that Oh supped on.

Oh Hyeon-gyu’s goal secured all three points for Celtic
Oh Hyeon-gyu’s late strike saw Scottish Premiership league leaders Celtic come from behind to beat a spirited St Mirren.
Conor McMenamin nodded Stephen Robinson’s side in front early on, before David Turnbull’s fine finish from the edge of the box levelled the scores.
Turnbull missed from the penalty spot just before the break, but with just seven minutes left, Oh fired beyond Zach Hemming to secure all three points and maintain Celtic’s advantage at the top of the table.
St Mirren remain third but, for a time, they might have been within five points of the leaders.

Robinson had called for his players to raise their already high levels for this game, and they certainly started brightly.
Their early pressure was rewarded when Greg Kiltie whipped in a dangerous ball from the left, McMenamin found space among a static Celtic defence, and the Northern Irishman planted his header past Joe Hart into the corner.
Turnbull returned to the starting line-up in place of the injured Reo Hatate and reminded home fans of his ability when Matt O’Riley created space and found his fellow midfielder, who smashed a wonderful strike into the top corner.
What an impact to ease early frustrations.
However, Turnbull was unable to add a second after a VAR review determined that Alex Gogic had handled inside the box.
Turnbull’s spot-kick cannoned of Zach Hemming’s upright, the goalkeeper denied Luis Palma on the follow-up, and the chance was gone.
James Forrest and Yang Hyun-Jun were both denied by Hemming from close range as Celtic pushed for a winner.
They increasingly dominated the ball and territory but came up against a St Mirren side determined to get something.
They found that vital winner though when two substitutes combined. Odin Thiago Holm played a delightful pass into the path of Oh and he finished emphatically for a vital three points.

One moment can make the difference and the nod goes to Oh. He’s been a frustrated figure for much of his Celtic career but that goal may prove a real springboard.

Celtic came into this after a frustrating draw at Easter Road, perhaps feeling the intensity of their schedule. Rodgers made a few changes that didn’t seem to pay-off, with recent stand-out O’Riley largely nullified apart from his assist.
Turnbull did make an impact with the equaliser but might have made this a far more straightforward game for his side had he converted the penalty.
Oh, though, did take his chance and finally delivered a goal could prove so important in the long run, for both him and Celtic.
St Mirren are a side bang in form. They came with a clear plan and it so nearly paid off. They rode their luck at times but offered an overall performance that showed why they are where they are.
When they fell behind they mustered a threat despite that blow.
They are a very good side and this experience at Celtic Park will only add to their belief. There’s no reason they can’t stay in third. None at all.
What’s next?
Celtic travel to Dingwall for the early kick-off on Saturday against Ross County (12:30 GMT). St Mirren don’t play this weekend and host Hibernian next Wednesday (19:45).
