Summary
Brendan Rodger Pre match: Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers tells BBC Scotland: “We’re looking forward to it. We had a good performance and result last week against a team that’s very tough to break down. I think that you have to draw a line under [the Scottish Cup final], which we have done. It obviously hurt at the time and especially in the manner in which we conceded the goal and then losing penalties. But in the main, the record we’ve had against Aberdeen is outstanding. And last time we were here, we played some brilliant football, scored goals, defended well and we aim to do the same. I think both teams had their first competitive games last week. And I was pleased with how we played at this stage of the season. But we got the job done and we won the game. And I think over the course of this season, the football will get better. But what’s most important, we come into every game to win and we won the game. So, it’s that little combination. We started last season so well. We’re really dynamic. But we’ve got a different set of players in our front line now. So, I have to respect that. But we’ll always work with them to make them the very best that they can be.”
Brendan Rodgers postmatch (positive manner) “I want #Celtic to live in the very best possible place it can be. For me that will be us signing more players at the top end of the pitch. I can’t magic them there. We know we need to strengthen. We know if we want to be the very best we can be we have to”.
Agent Scotland on Twitter:
FT: Aberdeen 0-2 Celtic Very comfortable victory for Celtic in the Granite City, I don’t think they played particularly well from an offensive prespective but they didn’t have to, Aberdeen tried to be aggressive but that’s all they had to offer, two great goals, one a belter.
One Sharp Cookie of KDS:
Comfortable afternoon. Tierney and Nygren are easily upgrades on what we had last season, which should put to bed this nonsense about us being significantly weaker than the team that ended last season. The front three remains the weak point though. What a difference a couple of real quality attacking players would make.
Bubba of KDS:
First half was a bit of a slog, second half was a stroll
Good first goal, stunning second
Thought scales, idah and maeda were poor, all the problem positions
Hatate wasn’t great but that goal makes up for that
Mcgregor and ccv in particular were superb and forrest was decent
Always funny when boyd can’t hide his hatred for both teams, he’s such a clown

pre Match Facts
Aberdeen are winless in their last 31 meetings with Celtic in all competitions (D7 L24) since a 1-0 victory at Celtic Park in their final league game of the 2017-18 season. The Dons did, however, win a penalty shootout against the Hoops in their most recent clash after a 1-1 draw in last season’s Scottish Cup final.
Celtic are unbeaten in their last 17 away league games at Aberdeen (W14 D3) since losing 2-1 in February 2016 under Ronny Deila.
After their 0-2 defeat to Hearts on MD1, Aberdeen could lose both of their first two games of a league season for the first time since 2003-04 under Steve Paterson – on that occasion, the first such defeat was to Hearts, and the second was at home to the defending Scottish champions Rangers.
Celtic have won their opening away game in each of the last three Scottish Premiership seasons, including a 3-1 win at Aberdeen in 2023-24. Under Brendan Rodgers, the Bhoys have won four of five such matches (L1).
Since the start of last season Celtic have scored more goals in the final five minutes of Scottish Premiership matches than any other team (16), with four of those earning the Hoops a draw (2) or a win (2), including Luke McCowan’s winning strike on MD1.

ABERDEEN…0
CELTIC…2
(Nygren 27, Hatate 65)
Celtic’s positive start to the season continued this afternoon at Pittodrie as Brendan Rodgers’ men took all three points thanks to a first Celtic goal for Benjamin Nygren and a stunning top-corner finish from Reo Hatate.
The game was frantic in the opening five minutes, with challenges flying in and both sides creating half-chances which came to nothing, including an effort from the edge of the box from Kieran Tierney which drifted wide of the target.
Kasper Schmeichel produced a brilliant one-handed save to deny Aouchiche who had shot from distance, with the Danish keeper pushing the effort wide of the post to keep the score level.
The home support was buoyed by their side’s aggressive start to the match and the Aberdeen players continued to try and impose themselves on the game, breaking up Celtic’s patterns of play wherever and however they could.
The Hoops, however, matched the home side’s physicality, with the Champions battling for every loose ball as they hunted for the opener
And, with just over 25 minutes gone, Celtic showed their quality when Kieran Tierney attacked down the left wing, and sent a ball in to the box for Benjamin Nygren, who was composed as he stroked it in to the net to make it 1-0 and claim his first goal for Celtic.
The Swede almost doubled Celtic’s lead a few minutes later when he was on hand after Mitov had made a good save from Reo Hatate’s curling effort, but on this occasion Nygren fired his shot over the bar.
Aberdeen worked a good move just before half time and it looked like Kusini Yengi was in a dangerous position to fire a cross in to the Celtic penalty area, but the pressure from the Celts’ defence unsettled the Aberdeen forward, and he ran the ball out of play before he could create a meaningful opportunity for his side.

Celtic got on to the front foot early in the second period, with Kieran Tierney clipping a perfectly weighted ball in to space for Daizen Maeda to chase.
The Japanese forward raced on to it and sent a dangerous ball in to the box, which had to be forced behind for a corner.
He then had a big opportunity to double Celtic’s lead with just over five minutes of the second half gone but his effort from six yards out after a great cross from James Forrest was well-saved by the home side’s keeper.
With 25 minutes to go, Reo Hatate made it 2-0 to Celtic with a strike that will undoubtedly be a goal of the season contender. The midfielder took control of the ball on the edge of the box from a Nygren pass before shifting it on to his right foot and bending a shot in to the top corner of the net to give the Hoops a two-goal lead.
Alistair Johnston found himself with a chance 15 minutes from the end when he got on to an excellent pass in to the box from James Forrest, but the Canadian could only hit the side-netting with his shot from an acute angle.
As the game entered the closing stages, the Celts were in full control of proceedings, moving the ball around well and dealing with any threat that the home side tried to creat.
The Champions will be pleased with their victory on the road and will now turn their attentions to Friday night where they will face Falkirk in the League Cup under the lights at Paradise.

Brendan Rodgers was delighted with his side’s showing at Pittodrie as they produced a strong display to win 2-0 and pick up another three Premiership points.
Goals from Benjamin Nygren – his first for Celtic – and a stunner from Reo Hatate set the seal on an impressive performance from the Champions.
And speaking to Celtic TV after the match, the manager said: “It was a really good performance. We controlled the game and dominated it. We had two outstanding goals and had other opportunities to make it even more comfortable, and their keeper also made some really good saves.
“Then, when we had to defend, we were really strong – our two centre-halves, and then even Auston coming into the game as well.
“So as a team I thought we were excellent, and then the context of the game – obviously it’s early in the season and playing Aberdeen in the first competitive game after the Scottish Cup and them beating us, we knew there was going to be something in it for them, but we played with a lot of quality and a lot of heart today, and that pleased me.”
Benjamin Nygren produced a Man of the Match performance, scoring the opener in the first-half following great work by Kieran Tierney down the left flank before providing an assist for Reo Hatate, who fired home a stunning strike.
“The two goals were very good,” said Brendan Rodgers. “For the first one, we arrived up into their half, worked the ball from one side to the other and then Kieran showed that great quality and speed he has to create the space for the cross, and then Benji – that’s why we brought him here.
“I’m so pleased for him. He’s got off the mark and he did really well.
“For our second goal, we played it through the pressure, attracted them to the ball and played it in behind and then worked it into Reo.
“It was a brilliant finish and he’s scored a couple of really good goals up here, so that gave us real comfort in the game and we were then able to enjoy the football.”

Celtic maintained their 100% start to their Scottish Premiership title defence with a comfortable victory at Aberdeen.
Benjamin Nygren turned in a Kieran Tierney cross to steady the visitors who were under earlier pressure from the side which defeated them in last season’s Scottish Cup final.
But that challenge dissipated, with Reo Hatate curling in a magnificent strike midway through the second half to seal victory for Brendan Rodgers’ team.
Dons manager Jimmy Thelin, whose side lost at Tynecastle in the opening week, resisted the temptation to stick with the back five that worked so well in last season’s final win over Celtic, reverting to his trademark 4-2-3-1 formation.
And they started well, Adil Aouchiche stinging Kasper Schmeichel’s fingers tips with a fizzing long range shot.
But the visitors broke the deadlock as the half hour approached courtesy of a fine low finish from Swedish winger Nygren after great work down the left by Tierney.
Celtic could have been further ahead at the break with Hatate forcing a smart save from Dimitar Mitov, before Liam Scales headed just wide.
Mitov was called into action early in the second half, producing a wonderful reflex stop to tip Daezen Maeda’s volleyed effort over.
Celtic did double their advantage on 65 minutes, when Hatate smashed an 18-yard strike into the net off the underside of the bar.
Aberdeen huffed and puffed after that, but were unable to find any sort of route back in to the game.

What was the main talking point?
Celtic weren’t at their best at Pittodrie, but they got the job done, and that will be the most pleasing thing for Rodgers.
Winning when you are not firing on all cylinders is the mark of champions, and that trait will be a worry to anyone else in the division who are perhaps holding out hopes of challenging them for the title this term.
Especially given that you have to assume this team will get better over the coming weeks and months.
Once again Celtic lacked a bit of cutting edge, but Rodgers will be hoping that is something which will addressed in the remaining weeks of the transfer window.
Aberdeen were better than they were in their season opening defeat at Hearts, but, and to use that phrase again, a lack of cutting edge in the final third is an early season source of concern for those of a red persuasion.

3. Kasper Schmeichel
Good save from Aouchiche sighter early on and then denied Polvara with his foot. Assured. 7
Alistair Johnston
Typical no-thrills, all-action display down the right flank. Had one moment when he was skinned by Keskinen, otherwise unflustered. 7
Cameron Carter-Vickers
Very assured display at the heart of Celtic’s defence – dealt with what little was thrown his way.
Liam Scales
Reaffirmed his place alongside Carter-Vickers at the heart of Celtic’s defence. Moved to left-back when Tierney came off. Did pick up a booking. 7
Kieran Tierney
Recovered from an early blow to the stomach and impressed, setting up the Celtic opener with a driving run. Solid defensively. Came off after 2-0 lead established as he bids to build his fitness. 8
Benjamin Nygren
Always involved. Timed his run impeccably to stroke home Tierney’s cross and also assisted Hatate for the second. Showed why he is in the team right now ahead of Engels, McCowan and Bernardo. 8
Callum McGregor
The captain was commanding, dictating presence in the Celtic midfield. Booked towards end. 7
Reo Hatate
Was playing well before curling in a beautiful strike in off the bar on 66 minutes. Showed his class. Came off on 77 minutes not long after a booking. 8
James Forrest
Preferred to Yang on the right-flank. Showed more direct running than the South Korean. Decent display. Came off towards end. 6
Adam Idah
Muted performance for the striker. Never really got involved in the match. Came off for Yamada. 5
Daizen Maeda
The Japanese had a frustrating day. Got little change out of Jensen and tripped over ball on his only moment when he bore down on goal. Did force Mitov into a smart stop from distance. 5
Celtic subs
Auston Trusty (above) slotted into the centre of defence midway through the second half. Arne Engels and Luke McCowan kept the midfield dominance going, while Shin Yamada and Anthony Ralston also appeared.
