Summary
“Really happy with the spirit because we came from behind twice and this is something I like to see. I think this is the next step, to be able to control this kind of game better but I liked the attitude, the competitive spirit, against a difficult team to play. I’m really pleased with my players.”

Joebloggscity of TheCelticWiki:
A manic match which saw an incredible 4 goals in the first ten minutes! Celtic went behind twice but stormed ahead 4-2 by the break, with a Nygren double being the corner stone to the victory. As happens, the second half was mostly a damp squid with no goals! Celtic won a penalty in the first half after VAR which it clearly was.
It wasn’t a convincing win, but gave Nancy his first away win as Celtic manager, two wins a row and a handful of goals which was great to see.
However, the Celtic defence is a shambles, and a combination of the tactics and Ralston as a weak link really is costing Celtic goals at present. It’s not comfortable, and there is still no real confidence in the underfire manager & squad. As for the board, the knives are still out for them from many on the terraces.
Note: The last time we played the team bottom of the league we got beat 2-0, while playing rubbish football. In that game we had the following players fit and able to play – Kasper, CCV, Sarrachi, Iheanacho, Tounekti, Balikwisha.
E-Tims @ETimsNet · 20h FT Livvy 2 #Celtic 4 A welcome second win on the spin. Re the game, chaos! Don’t think I’ve seen anything like it in many a year. It’s like street fitba when you were a wean with every cunt running aroon mental!
HT Livvy 2 #Celtic 4 Forget Angebaw, this is #ChaosBaw! Many heart replacements will be required and not just for aulder yins! It’s like a game of secondary school fitba!
Jbj712 of KDS:
In all the games against Scottish opposition we have been relatively found out in the second half after their coaches have had a chance to see us up close.
Part of that might be that we don’t have the legs in the team to play his way for ninety minutes but we managed to make the bottom team in the league look like peak AC Milan today because we are just so open and easy to play against.
The Huns on the panel of “pundits” were basically laughing at our set up and no wonder.
We look amateurish to put it mildly. Anyone who thinks a couple of loan signings in January are going to change things is kidding themselves.
We are getting by because the opposition we are playing are genuinely shockingly bad.
A good team will hammer us because it’s schoolboy levels of disorganisation at the minute.
Viduka82 of KDS:
Hard to make sense of that. Drop off 2nd half was telling, similar to St Mirren and Dundee United match, big difference was we had a 2 goal lead.
If it’s gonna work he needs at least 3/4 first team players in Jan.
Will give him some credit as he’s playing with a man down with Kenny
I too thought that the drop in intensity in the second was similar to Dundee U. Concerning for me is Nancy continues to play Ralston, Kenny, McCowan (he plays well for 20 minutes a match, then his game drops off a cliff). Ralston and Kenny bring nothing in performance terms. They are in fact a detriment. Quite a few posters thought Tierney was good. For me he looked slow and ponderous (actually appeared or looked ill) and that square pass giveaway for their first was not a good look.
Obviously, three quality players will make us better. In stating that, we are not playing 3 – 4 – 3. Only the goalkeeper, Trusty, Engels and McGregor are playing positionally correct, every other player’s position is random. It is an aberration. In fact, when defending the two wing backs should fall to make it a back 5. The other (2) attackers should drop into midfield, and then you have 5 – 4 – 1. Yang is too high up the pitch and is caught out. Tierney is mostly wide and McCowan is at times behind Tierney.
Tierney is playing like a normal left back, McCowan playing like a left half, moving wide or high up the field Maeda plays wide and inside. This is the problem as the group cannot transition into a defensive shape. The other major issue the defensive corner kicks.
Make no mistake about this system, this is not Holland’s total football 1994! Overloads indeed.

LIVINGSTON…2
(Montaño 3 & 8)
CELTIC…4
(Nygren 6 & 31, Yang 10, Engels 40)
Celtic ran out 4-2 winners away to Livingston this afternoon, with all six goals scored within the first 45 minutes of the game.
There simply could not have been a more action-packed opening to today’s match, with no fewer than four goals scored before 10 minutes had been played.
Livingston struck first, with Cristian Montaño picking up a Kieran Tierney pass which was meant for Arne Engels. The Livi forward burst in to the box and fired a shot high in to the net off of the post.
Celtic quickly equalised when a well-delivered corner from Arne Engels was flicked on by Daizen Maeda towards Benjamin Nygren, who was only too happy to hammer the ball home from a few yards out.
The breathless start to the match continued, and just moments later the home side had the lead and again, Montaño was again the Livi player wheeling away in celebration after lashing a volleyed effort in to the top corner to make it 2-1.
By this point, it was almost easy to predict what would happen next, and true to form, the Hoops were level again within minutes. This time it was Yang who got his name on the scoresheet after Maeda had sent the ball in to the box. Both Yang and Johnny Kenny battled hard in the centre of the area, with Yang eventually pouncing on the loose ball to put it in the bottom corner.
With the score level once again, the game settled after a frankly frantic start, and Celtic began to take control and create further opportunities, with Yang and Daizen Maeda both unlucky not to find the back of the net after some nice build-up play.
The break in the fluctuating scoreline, however, proved to be nothing more than a brief interlude and with half an hour gone, Benjamin Nygren put Celtic ahead for the first time.
Kieran Tierney picked him out on the edge of the box and the Swede unleashed a stunning left-footed finish which cannoned in to the net off of the post to make it 3-2.
It wasn’t long before Wilfried Nancy’s men had the chance to extend the lead when referee Matthew MacDermid pointed to the penalty spot following a VAR review on a handball from Livi’s Daniel Finlayson, and Arne Engels stepped up and buried his spot-kick to give Celtic a 4-2 lead at the break.

The second half very nearly started in the same manner as the first 45 minutes, with Johnny Kenny finding himself in a shooting position within seconds of the restart and Callum McGregor seeing a powerful effort from the edge of the area saved.
With just shy of an hour played, a smart bit of defending from Auston Trusty was enough to cut out a dangerous cross in to the Celtic penalty area and preserve the Hoops’ two-goal lead, though there were some within the home support who were too hasty to celebrate, thinking the big American had turned the ball in to his own net.
Luke McCowan soon found himself with a chance to get his name on the scoresheet when he broke forward at speed on the counter-attack. After showing some quick feet just inside the box to evade several Livingston defenders, the midfielder got a shot on target, though the keeper was able to make the save.
With 20 minutes left, Viljami Sinisalo made a big save to prevent Cristian Montaño from claiming a hat-trick with a powerful strike from the edge of the area. Sinisalo was alert to the effort and was able to get both hands to the ball to keep Celtic’s two-goal advantage intact.
As the match drew to a close, chances were few and far between for both sides, although Robbie Muirhead found himself with a big chance for Livingston in the 90th minute, but his driven effort from distance sailed high over the bar.
Next up for Wilfried Nancy’s men is a trip to Fir Park on Tuesday night to face Motherwell where another three points would be the perfect way to end the year for the Hoops.

Benjamin Nygren delighted with his double as Hoops win again

Benjamin Nygren hit a double to help Celtic beat Livingston 4-2 at Almondvale Stadium today (Saturday), taking his tally for the season to 10 goals.
The Swedish midfielder supplied Celtic’s first equaliser after the home side had taken an early lead, while he also netted the Hoops’ third goal of the game.
And Nygren, who also scored in last weekend’s 3-1 win over Aberdeen, was pleased to play his part in delivering back-to-back league wins for Wilfried Nancy’s side.
Speaking to Celtic TV after the game, he admitted that it wasn’t the start to the game the team wanted, but he praised the strong mentality of the squad in coming back twice and going on to win the match.

Celtic made it back-to-back wins with a 4-2 victory away to Livingston, following on from the home win against Aberdeen last weekend.
In what was a frantic start to the game, there were four goals in the first 10 minutes, with the Hoops equalising twice after the home side scored through goals from Benjamin Nygren and Yang.
Nygren added another goal before Arne Engels netted from the spot to complete the scoring, all in the first-half.
The win reduces the deficit at the top of the table to just three points, with Celtic having a game in hand over leaders, Hearts, and Wilfried Nancy was pleased with another win for his side.
Speaking to Celtic TV after the game, the Celtic manager praised his players’ character in twice coming from behind before going on to establish a lead they never relinquished.

Wilfried Nancy continued to recover from his dismal start as Celtic manager, his side twice coming from behind in a ridiculous first half to beat Livingston and move to within three points of Scottish Premiership leaders Hearts.
Four goals were scored in the opening 10 minutes, Livingston twice taking the lead only for Celtic to hit back almost immediately, with two further first-half goals ensuring a second win in six games under new manager Nancy.
And with Hearts losing the Edinburgh derby earlier in the day – their final game of 2025 – Celtic could go top should they win at Motherwell on Wednesday.
Cristian Montano had Livingston ahead after just three minutes in West Lothian when he skipped past Hyun-jun Yang and fired past Viljami Sinisalo and in off the near post.
Benjamin Nygren tapped in the leveller for Celtic three minutes later when Daizen Maeda headed Arne Engels’ corner to the back post.
But Livi went up the other end and immediately restored their lead, Montano being left totally unmarked inside the Celtic box to fire a rocket beyond Sinisalo. Only eight frantic minutes had elapsed.
Celtic news, views & analysis
Keep up to date with Livingston
Celtic, though, would level again a couple of minutes later, Yang eventually turning the ball over the line after a scramble inside the six-yard box.
The contest them quietened a little for 20 minutes before Nancy’s side took the lead for the first time when Nygren fired the ball in off the inside of the far post.
And Arne Engels added to the lead just before the break after the ball appeared to strike the arm of Livi’s Daniel Finlayson following a Celtic corner.
After taking a second look at the incident on the pitchside monitor, referee Matthew MacDermid gave the spot kick, which Engels converted.
There were no goals in the second half but plenty of chances for both sides in a compelling contest.
Luke McCowan and Reo Hatate forced saves from Prior while Montano and Macaulay Tait enjoyed opportunities up the other end.
The result leaves Livingston rock bottom of the Premiership table, four adrift of Kilmarnock above them, albeit with a game in hand.
Analysis: Celtic attacking threat pays off & more misery for Livi
Livingston v Celtic statsImage source, Opta
It was another exciting attacking display from Nancy’s side, albeit this time a few more of their chances found the back of the net.
Celtic had 18 shots over the 90 minutes – seven on target – and created five big chances. They had almost 70% possession and 638 passes compared to Livingston’s 209 and generated an expected goals of 3.44.
For all their attacking prowess, their defending left a lot to be desired yet again.
After conceding twice in the opening eight minutes at Almondvale, Celtic have now conceded three goals in the first 15 minutes of the first half – only Livingston (six) and Dundee (four) have conceded more in the Premiership.
They allowed Livingston to send in 20 crosses – higher than their season average of 19.2 – and allowed Cristiano Montano Cristian to attempt six shots.
Despite the scoreline, Livingston put in an impressive performance and perhaps wouldn’t be wrong to be disappointed not to take something from the game.
Montano’s brace set the tone for a high-intensity performance. They had 13 shots – albeit only three on target – and eight of those came inside Celtic’s box. They also had 26 touches in Celtic’s penalty area and 42 final third entries.
Despite finding themselves 4-2 down in the second half, they continued to fight until the final whistle.
In fact in the second half, Livingston generated a higher xG than Celtic , had more shots (six to Celtic’s five) and had 15 touches in Celtic’s box.
Ultimately they lacked the cutting edge in front of goal and find themselves in an unenviable position at the bottom of the Premiership table.
But Martindale can surely take confidence from a tenacious performance from his team.
What they said
Livingston boss David Martindale: “I do genuinely feel that there’s a lot of positives within performances. I don’t think we got battered today, I thought we were competitive within the game.
“We need to tidy up in our own box and I think that’s been our story of late. I think we need to tidy up in the offensive areas as well because goals win games.”
Celtic manager Wilfried Nancy: “Really happy with the spirit because we came from behind twice and this is something I like to see.
“I think this is the next step, to be able to control this kind of game better but I liked the attitude, the competitive spirit, against a difficult team to play. I’m really pleased with my players.”
