Lyrics

#Looking back on when we first met
I cannot escape
but I cannot forget Lustig
you’re the one
You still turn me on
You can make me whole again#

Background

Lustig had been at Celtic a while and had become a cult figure. On the field he had a very extrovert persona, and finally after a long while he was awarded a song from the terraces. The Twitterati argued over the appropriate tune to use, and the one above is based on a pop tune by all girl band Atomic Kitten.

Lustig thinks his song is brilliant

Mikael Lustig thinks that his new song is brilliant.Last week at Ross County the Celtic fans adapted an Atomic Kitten song to ‘Lustig You’re The One’ with the chant heard regularly at Hampden as Celtic lifted the Betfred Cup.The Swede has developed a cult following over the course of the year as he revels in success for club and country.Yesterday’s pitchside celebrations were more subdued than at the San Siro as Sweden reached the World Cup Finals but the bond between the defender and the fan is growing stronger game by game.“It’s brilliant, I have to say thanks to the fans.” he said about his song.Asked if his wife approved of the song he smiled: “Yes, always.”Lustig only lasted 12 minutes of Celtic’s defeat against Paris Saint Germain and looked a doubt for the clash with Motherwell. There was nothing lacking at Hampden with the Swede putting in a full 90 minutes and not letting up as he added another medal to his growing collection.“It was just a dead leg,” he explained about his early finish in Paris. “Until Saturday I thought I wouldn’t be able to play but I took a couple of pills and it was fine.“A cup final is a big match, you want to play on these occasions.“We knew that Motherwell would work really hard, they did that but we knew if they kept playing like that they would get tired and the first goal is vital. After that we could have scored three, four or five.“We really want to win, we’re not satisfied, we always look forward and never get tired of winning.“This is a massive club, it’s hard to get to a club like this and you just want to keep on winning trophies.”Despite the competition of Cristian Gamboa and Tony Ralston Lustig remains the first choice Celtic right back as he approaches the sixth anniversary of arriving from Rosenborg.

Lustig you’re the one

Just when Mikael Lustig might have thought his footballing life couldn’t get much sweeter, him being one of the Swedes who qualified for the World Cup by ousting Italy last week, he’s now at the centre of a heated debate among Celtic fans over which is the superior tribute tune to the fella. The choices: (a) In honour of last season’s treble, to the tune of ABBA’s ‘Thank you for the music’: “So I say thank you Mikael Lustig, this song we’re singing, thanks for all, the joy you’re bringing. “Who could live without you, I ask in all honesty, what would life be, without a goal and a dance from our Swede? “So I say… thank you Mikael Lustig, for winning us all three.” (b) To the tune of, eh, Atomic Kitten’s ‘Whole Again’: “Looking back on when we first met, I cannot escape and I cannot forget, Lustig, you’re the one, you still turn me on, you can make me whole again.” They’re both outstanding, so it’s impossible to choose – but anyone who claims they forecast Celtic fans one day belting out an Atomic Kitten tune is lying.
