Trivia

  • This much postponed game was finally played on this Monday night. An attempt to play it on the previous Thursday had failed and this second round tie was not allowed to be played on the Saturday when some Third Round ties were being played. This Monday night game was played in rain as the weather had broken and the frost relented.
  • Given the willingness of supporters to turn out, the clubs allowed free entry to all season book holders of both St Mirren and Celtic for the game. St Mirren stuck by their decision to go on the toss of a coin and play at Celtic Park.
  • Celtic played the same players again however St Mirren rejigged the full backs and half backs with neilson and McGugan going to wing halfs.

Review

After an epic struggle in this round of the Cup the Bhoys finally came thru in dramatic style with Neil Mochan getting all five goals. The St Mirren rejig did nothing to add to their team and they found themselves constantly exposed to the speed of Colrain and Divers. Mochan too played like a rejuvenated man and gave Tierney a night to forget. He could have had a further three goals but for excellent keeping from Walker. The song of the night was 'When the Saints go marching out!'
The management took the players to Seamills to unwind for two days following this game.
