In 1902 Celtic played in a four team tournament for the British League Cup. The trophy played for was the 1901 Glasgow Exhibition Cup. The winners, Rangers, had agreed to put the trophy up for competition as a way of raising funds to support the victims and bereaved of the 1902 Ibrox disaster.

The four teams playing in the Cup were the respective winners and runners up of the Scottish and English leagues.

The four teams were:

  • Celtic
  • Rangers
  • Sunderland
  • Everton

Celtic played Sunderland in the first round beating them 5-1.
Rangers beat Everton after a replay.

In the final Celtic beat Rangers 3-2 after extra time. Jimmy Quinn scored a hat trick.
