Celtic Park presented an animated appearance to witness the opening tussle of the season in the league games between these clubs. Rangers kicked off with a slight wind. Five minutes from the start, from a pass from the right, Divers scored for Celtic. Twenty minutes later, from a foul near goal, Rangers equalised. hardly had the cheering died down when Divers put Celtic in the lead again with a header. A great effort by Madden made it 3-1. The game became straggling towards half-time.

Before resuming, the referee called the players together and warned them against a repetition of rough play. Two minutes in the half, Barker scored. After some hard and smart forward play McPherson sent in a strong shot, which put McArthur through with the ball. The closing portion of the game was freer from the rough play than the opening portion. The game ended Celtic 5-3 Rangers.
