- (ht=2-0) @ Celtic Park ko. 2.30pm
Review
Like pins to a magnet these two were drawn out of the hat for the 1st Round proper of the Cup. The very reason why the preliminary rounds were introduced a few years previously was to prevent the “big” clubs going out early and now here we were – two of the biggest – before November was out. Right from the kick off Celtic dominated so it wasn`t a surprise when John Campbell opened the scoring from a corner after four minutes.
The Spiders` defence held on for half an hour but Campbell slickly converted Johnny Madden`s cross and then the players trooped off for their half time cuppa. Celtic`s teamwork outplayed their visitors individual skills in the homeward 45 and on the hour mark, Jimmy Blessington split Queen`s defence and Johnny Divers tapped in the third and Campbell scored the fourth with 20 minutes to go.
Tom Waddell`s goal sparked a Queen`s revival but far too little far too late.
