Hugh Edmonds was only briefly a Celtic player, and is best remembered for his playing career elsewhere.
A goalkeeper, the main Scottish team for which he played was Hamilton, making well over 100 appearances for the Lanarkshire club. He also played in 1902 as Accies won the Second Division.
Also in 1902, he had a very brief guest spell for Celtic. He played for the Bhoys in a friendly versus Everton, as well as a 5-1 victory over Sunderland in the British League Cup.
After this, he spent many years playing in Northern Ireland, before moving to England. He had a short spell at Bolton before making the short journey to Manchester. In 1911, he was then part of Manchester United’s second title winning team, and also claimed that year’s FA Charity Shield.
Following this successful period, Edmonds returned to Ireland where he played and then became the player/manager for Glenavon.
