Iceland Under-21 international striker Kjartan Henry Finnbogason was signed by Celtic in December 2004 alongside fellow teenager and compatriot Theodor Elmar Bjarnason.

The Bhoys beat off competition from clubs in England and across Europe to sign the two highly rated prospects from KR Reykjavik on two-and-a-half-year deals. The Hoops paid a nominal fee for the then 18-year-old Finnbogason. However despite some good showings at reserve level Finnbogason failed to gain first-team recognition. SFL third division defences breathed a collective sigh of relief when a prospective loan move to Billy Stark's Queen's Park was scuppered by a foot injury in January 2006.

He was released after turning down a new deal with the club in the summer of 2007 and headed off on trial to Bristol City and IFK Gothenburg. Failed to snaffle a contract and finished the season at lowly Åtvidabergs FF in the Swedish second level. The following season his goals blasted Norwegian club Sandefjord to promotion, although he was used much more sparingly in the ensuing 2009 Tippeligaen campaign.

Spotted on trial with Falkirk in August 2009 and joined 'the bairns' on loan, scoring on his SPL debut. Not kept on by the relegation-bound 'Bairns,' he returned to KR Reykjavik ahead of the Icelandic 2010 season.
