BiogMcLean, Lauchlan - The Celtic Wiki

Centre-forward Lauchlan McLean’s brief Celtic career began when he was signed by the Parkhead club in August 1909 from Inverness Clachnacuddin.

His competitive debut for the Hoops came on November 27 when the Celts won 1-0 at Aberdeen in a league match when he deputised for the great Jimmy Quinn.

He had to wait till March 1910, for his next games, a 2-0 win over Third Lanark and a 1-0 win over Queen’s Park, both in the league. He came into the side as McMenemy was out for a few games and the players were shifted around.

Sadly, as a centre-forward your worth is in goals, and he scored none in his three appearances, and he was another left in the shadow of the mighty Jimmy Quinn. So no easy task there to get in the side.

Lauchlan McLean departed Parkhead for Preston North End in May 1910 after just those three competitive appearances.

Despite the brief Celtic career, he still has the proud personal record of having played in 3 winning league games out of 3 with Celtic, helping the club to the league title in season 1909-10. It capped off Celtic’s dominance in the league over the past decade, this being Celtic’s sixth league title in a row, then a record number of consecutive league titles. Celtic won the league by just 2pts ahead of Falkirk.

He went on to play for St Mirren and Inverness Caledonian. At Preston, he was one of three McLean’s in the side: one was English, one was a Scot and he was tagged as an Irishman.
