Details

Name: Celtic Old Crocks
Ref: Ex-Celts Celtic sides that played in post-war era (1950s) for invitational matches, charity matches & meet ups.
Era: 1940s-1970

Summary

Affectionate team name given to invitational side for former players for a kick about to relive old playing days. A great get together and way to bring alumni together.

They played against regional selects, but also interestingly Police and Clergy selects too!

Various old Celtic players have helped to keep in touch with others via these get togethers.  Ex-Celt John Connor played over a ten year spell with this invitational team.

Notes

From Tom Doyle Biog & Alphabet of the Celts book

Tom served in the Forces 1940-46 during the war, and later played for ‘Celtic1938’ in the 1950s who were affectionately known as the ‘Celtic Old Crocks’. He even ‘suffered’ for the Celtic cause, when in 1956 during a charity match at Kilmarnock he suffered two broken ribs.
