New Arrivals, Debuts and Departures.

The one major arrival during the season was goalkeeper Evan Williams. When Ronnie Simpson dislocated his shoulder again in the League Cup semi final replay against Ayr Utd on the 13th October 1969, there was only John Fallon as a senior keeper. The acquisition of another keeper was imperative. Celtic asked around. Evan Williams had gone from Third Lanark to Wolverhampton Wanderers but Wolves had lent him to Aston Villa for 1969-70 where ex-Celt and club friend Tommy Docherty was manager. No doubt he alerted them to his availability and ability and he joined Celtic on the 14th for a "modest fee" making his debut on the 15th in the Glasgow Cup game against Clyde.

The major departure came at the end of the season when Ronnie Simpson decided to hang up his boots at the age of 39. Another dislocated shoulder injury this season forced his hand. The injuries were becoming more regular, particularly the troublesome shoulder and recovery time was longer. He still found time to represent his golf club at a serious level and run his sporting shop in Edinburgh as well as getting elected as the independent municipal candidate for Corstorphine at the end of the season.

Jackie Clarke, a centre half signed from Shamrock Rovers the previous season who did not play a senior game, also asked for release and he returned to Ireland to join Bohemians.

Charlie Gallacher was also released on a free at the end of the season and joined Dumbarton. He had been out of the first team set up for some time and had only made 1 appearance with the Reserves this season.

Vic Davidson stepped up for his senior team debut in the last game of the season

Of the youths there was a whole string of young players, the core of the Kelly Kids coming through. John Gorman, Danny McGrain, Paul Wilson, Ward White, Pat McCluskey, Ian Hall and Jim Davidson all had runs in the Reserves. Most would go onto senior careers.

Some were untraced and were probably remaindered. Of these there was Hugh McKellar (inside right signed from Ardeer Recreationin '67-'68); Billy Murdoch (Bobby's younger brotther), Jim Harrower from Glenrothes, Joe Sloan and Benny Irwin signed provisaionally from Cumbernauld Utd and released at the end of the season and signed for Leicester City, and three provisional youth signings from Eastercraigs – Donald Watt (centre half), Willie McGranaghan (outside right) and James McSorley (outside left).
