Launched in March 2002 ‘The Alternative View’ was Matt McGlone‘s (Ex-Once A Tim editor and member of Celts For Change) first project since his departure from the staff of the Celtic View.

‘The Alternative View’ started following the departure of Matt McGlone from ‘The Celtic View‘ after some controversial and acrimonious situations internally. Matt McGlone returned to his roots to start up a fanzine, so as to keep on the writing and set up ‘The Alternative View’ fanzine with a strong launch and impressive initial format clearly set up to challenge ‘The Celtic View’. The initial A4 glossy format quickly bombed when advertising revenue failed to kick in, but the magazine was later relaunched and then relaunched again, and has enjoyed a degree of success.

A difficult task in the modern environment taking in the rise and power of the internet and the Celtic forums in particular.

Covering everything and anything connected with Celtic, The Alternative View has feature regular interviews with ex-players and famous supporters and is not reluctant to offer a political viewpoint. It is, and was initially, a fortnightly magazine but since it’s launch its publication date has altered several times. It can be purchased from sellers outside the ground on matchdays and from numerous newsagents in and around Glasgow.

Additionally, it has been criticised for being a bit of a mouthpiece for Matt McGlone who is a strongly opinionated person and has been overly one-sided in various disputes and scenarios. Regardless, Matt McGlone is a strong Celtic fan at heart and no one can deny his love for the club, and his contributions are welcome.

With the plethora of Celtic media (on and offline), you can take or leave his views and easily move on to another, but what you can never do is simply sweep them under a carpet.
