Trivia

  • Newspapers link Celtic with a £75,000 move for Ronnie Glavin.
  • Harry Hood was an injury doubt after taking an ankle knock in the game against Motherwell.
  • Jock Stein restede key players after a tough week leaving out Connaghan, Murray and Jimmy Johnstone and with Harry Hood out with the ankle knock. In came Dixie Deans for only his second first team start of the new season, Jimmy Bone, Jackie McNamara and Ally Hunter back in goal.
  • Celtic win 6-2 on aggregate.
  • Celtic will face Airdrie in the semi final. With Hibs also going through and drawn to face Falkirk it looked as though a repeat of the Celtic – Hibs League Cup Final was on the cards.

Review

Brave Hamilton took the lead and pushed Celtic hard but Celtic's fitness told in the end.
Hamilton got an early goal when Billy McNeill headed an attempted clearance over the head of Hunter and into the goal.
They were equal by half time though with a goal from Dixie Deans once a midfield of McNamara, Dalglish and Callaghan grabbed control of midfield.
In the second half the Accies came out positively but paid for their attacking and shipped another three goals.
