Trivia

  • Another hastily arranged Friendly to get games for players and to assess strengths.Deans was also included in the squad.
  • Alex Ingram ordered off after 21 minutes after tussle with Brogan. Lynch ordered off after 37 for retaliation against McAnespie, some friendly !
  • New goalkeeper Peter Latchford plays his first ever game for Celtic. He was signed hastily from West Bromwich Albion initially on a month-to-month loan. Sean Fallon had watched him on the 15th in a Reserve game against Huddersfield and on that basis Celtic had approached West Brom for a loan of the England U23 goalkeeper.
  • Ayr Utd had their game at the weekend called off and fielded their forst team apart from goalkeeper Hugh Sproat who was an 18 y.o. picked up from Auchinleck Talbot by Ayr manager Ally MacLeod
  • Jock Stein was appointed Assistant Manager to the Scotland Manager Willie Ormond for at least the upcoming game against Sweden. He would take charge of the U23s who were playing the night before the main Sctland team took on Sweden in Gothenburg. Only one Celt, Pat McCluskey was named in the U23 squad.

Review

Peter Latchford was the man under review in his first game for Celtic and he did enough to win a starting place for the weekend game against Hibernian.

Referee Byers was very harsh in both sending off which would have usually warranted a talking to rather than a straight red.

The 'Junior' at inside left could have been anyone from Kenny Innes (Maryhill Juniors), Willie Irvine (Whitburn Juniors), Brian Coyne, Ray Hood (Calderbank Amateurs), Joe McKee (Kirkintilloch Rob Roy) who had all been farmed out or were on provisionals.
