RAITH OUTCLASSED

With Celtic forwards in grand form, it was not in any way a surprise that Raith Rovers should lose by six goals to one at Parkhead, for teams better disposed than the Fifers would have had great difficulty in countering the incisive raids, of the home attack. Such artistry and punch were displayed by Crum and his colleagues that goal scoring looked simple.

Raith were definitely outclassed, and while they admittedly lacked the high standard of, skill of their opponents, they were also deficient in pace. It was; a big disadvantage against a team so quick-thinking and quick-moving as the League champions, but there was no denying the great enthusiasm of the visitors. There were times when the Rovers half-backs and forwards did launch an attack during which some clever combination was seen. More often than not however, pace and sound defending proved too great obstacles for the Fife forwards.

Celtic, playing with supreme confidence, were masters of the situation soon after the start. In the first half Murphy and Crum scored, while after the resumption following two goals by McDonald, Whitelaw secured Raiths’ point.

Before the end Crum added another two to the total. The attendance was 8,000.
