Trivia

  • Matt Armstrong opens the scoring in 20 minutes for Aberdeen and Jimmy Delaney equalises for Celtic 6 minutes later. Goals from Arthur Biggs in 40 and David Warnock in 63 minutes seal a victory for the Dons.
  • There are match reports for English games and most of the Scottish games except Celtic who only get a gloating mention in Herald Round-up [below].
  • In England two Scottish Internationalists, Dave McCulloch of Derby and Torry Gillick (ex-Rangers) of Everton scored while Willie Cook (ex-Celtic), Everton’s Irish Internationalist and Ronnie Dix of Derby completed the scoring in a 2-2 draw before 45,000 at Goodison. Aston Villa hammered Sunderland at Roker Park 5-1 with Frank O’Donnell getting the opener for Villa. Ex-Celt Willie Fagan scored for Liverpool at Stoke but could not prevent the Mersey-side team from losing 3-1.
  • Fighting continues on a large scale on the Catalan front and the bombers of General Franco’s insurgents dropped 60 bombs on the village of El Viso killing 11 and injuring 50.
