The Scotsman, Monday, 19 February, 1940

Still coupled with Partick at the foot of the section are Celtic, who lost again at Kilmarnock.

Celtic opened the scoring, and occasionally played good combined football, but the home side's direct tactics showed up the Parkhead defence as being slow and hesitant, and now it seems more than ever necessary for the new manager, James McStay, to tighten up the rear lines.
