Review

Tully's game – first and foremost the outstanding player on the park – and along with Bobby Evans they made a pairing that dictated the play and pace of the game. Mochan Walsh and Higgins were all energy and fizz. Celtic scored on ten minutes from a rapid move involving Tully, Higgins and Evans and when the cross came over Walsh was there. Stein stopped a clear goal scoring chance for Falkirk after Fallon had handled and the free kick put Davidson in. Celtic went two up in the sixteenth minute from a Tully corner which was headed home by Higgins. Falkirk had neither the guile nor speed of Celtic but towards the end of the first half Bonnar was called on to make some important saves.
Celtic continued in style after the break with Mochan coming more into it laying on chances for Higgins and Walsh. In the 61st minute, Walsh was dropped by Rae in the penalty area and Haughney scored from the spot. Falkirk got a consolation goal and before the end Haughney had to hack ioff the line after Bonnar was beaten by a header from a corner.
