Trivia

  • Christmas Day fixture
  • Andrew Bell continued in goal; after trying Jimmy Rowan at outside right Alec Boden was brought back into the forward line again;
  • Alec Boden’s first goal for Celtic.
  • This game, and a Rangers loss to Hibernian set the frame nicely for the Ne’erday game, with both sides level on points and games played and Rangers slightly better off on goal average having conceded 2 goals less than Celtic.

Review

A wet game on a muddy park, however the wings were drier but Celtic failed to exploit this and played centre first.
Referee Bissett failed to endear himself to the Celtic support when he failed to give a clear penalty to Celtic in the second half when Walsh was clearly manhandled off the ball. This would have made it 3-1 to Celtic at that point and the likelihood is that Clyde would not have recovered. Instead on the next move Divers was tackled from behind by Evan and went sprawling with the referee awarding a penalty to Clyde.
Tully had been badly fouled early on and thereafter he played less a part in the Celtic game plan. However Celtic’s game was error-strewn throughout the match. The finishing of both sides was poor with Walsh and Ring both particularly at a loss to find the net. Celtic’s first goal came from the oddly positioned Boden who scored with a terrific shot after good work from Walsh and Tully. Their second followed a goal mouth scrable in which the Clyde goalkeeper picked up an injury. Wilson had to go off for 15 minutes and Celtic failed to capitalise on the presence of Hill in the Clyde goal. Clyde’s opening goal came from a run down the wing by Buchanan and Meechan missed both him and the ball with a sliding tackle.
At the end of the match Tully had some choice words for the referee.
