Trivia

  • Steve Chalmers who had limped out of the Barcelona game 15 minutes before the end went to see a specialist with injuries to both ankles. He ended up with his right leg in plaster and out for at least a month.
  • Celtic had been due to face Hibernian on 5th December. The game was called off because of fog. It was due to be played on the following Tuesday night. This was then called off because of substantial damage to the floodlights following a gale.
  • The Reserves that played on the Saturday are worth including here as it is the first mention of David Hay. Fallon; Halpin, McCann; Cattanach, Cushley, Brogan; Hay, Tommy Spencer, Sweeney, Tony Taylor, Lennox. They won 3-0 at Easter Rd.
  • For this game against the Maryhill Magyars back in came fit again John Clark with Willie O'Neill continuing at left half. Bobby Murdoch moved back into the forwards, Hughes stayed at centre forward with Steve Chalmers out injured and Hugh Maxwell was restored to inside left with Charlie Gallacher going outside him.

Review

Celtic pushed for a better League position with this win at Firhill. The Jags scored first on the quarter hour mark but Charlie Gallacher equalised 5 minutes later with a shot from forty yards. Hughes added a second after the break and then added a third. Maxwell added a fourth before the end and Ian Young put the ball past Simpson for an own goal. The Bhoys exerted their superiority over Partick Thistle throughout this game and the Firhill brigade had little in the way of answers against Celtic. John Clark in particular was singled out for praise in the way he started attacks and Faither Simpson distributed the ball from goal kicks and throw outs well. Hughes too was dangerous whenever he got the ball.
