Trivia

  • Jimmy Johnstone and Dixie Deans were included in the Scotland party with Dalglish as a sub to face Spain in a European Championships qualifier at Hampden. Scotland lost 2-1.
  • Billy McNeill was back fit after recovering from a back strain that had seen him subbed in the game against Airdrie at the previous weekend. With him back Stein fielded an unchanged team with Jimmy Johnstone and Tommy Callaghan on the bench.
  • Hearts were not having the best of seasons and were one above bottom having only recently appointed a manager.
  • Cruickshank saved a Lennox penalty after 38 minutes.
  • Hibs win 1-0 at Ibrox to keep Celtic top of the table.
  • The Reserves won 2-1 against Hearts Reserves on the Tuesday night with a team of Barclay, Quinn, Callaghan, McNamara, MacDonald, Welsh, McLaughlin, Hood, Bone, Burns, Lynch. Subs Ritchie, Little. Bone and Lynch scored.

Review

Celtic blew Hearts away in the first half hour but Lennox's missed penalty when they were leading 1-0 ultimately cost them both points.
Wilson's goal came from a well worked move with Glavin and Deans both involved. Then came Lennox's penalty miss which arose after he'd been brought down by Anderson. Hearts took a lift from that and equalised just before the whistle for half time.

The second half was more open and both teams had chances to win.
