Review

On a cold autumnal day at Hampden a disappointing Celtic team lost out to Alex MacDonald's fine second half header. Neither side played well in an uninspiring game and Celtic rarely threatened although Callaghan's fine shot late on struck a post.

1975 Celtic v Rangers LCF

Rangers' defender Tom Forsyth man marked Celtic's danger man Kenny Dalglish and without Dalglish's inspiration Celtic found they had no creativity. Celtic officials were angered as Forsyth put in several heavy tackles on Dalglish which the referee did not take action against.

Rangers had thrown a surprise by bringing in Colin Stein to their forward line and playing Johnstone in a deep midfield role.

Celtic now looked as if they couldn't cope without the experience of the absent McNeill (retired), Hay (transferred), Connelly (walked out), Murray (injury / retired), Brogan (freed), Johnstone (freed), Deans (injured) and Hunter (loss of form) who would all have been available 12 months earlier.
