Trivia
- Ally Hunter is recalled in goals. This was his last ever appearance for Celtic. With the aftermath of the Cup game against Motherwell, all positions were looked at again. Latchford, being found wanting found himself out.
- As well as Latchford dropping out, Roddie MacDonald was dropped along with Ronnie Glavin and Bobby Lennox. In came Andy Ritchie, Tommy Callaghan and Paul Wilson.
- On the Wednesday the Celtic team had been taken to the BBC studios to view their last matches and review the defensive lapses. Archie McPherson recalls this in his biography of JHock Stein saying how Stein berated them.
- During the week Brian McLaughlin went out on loan to Finn Harps in Ireland.
Review
Fallon rings the changes after last week's cup debacle at Fir Park. The changes were made and the importance of a win was paramount having lost in the Scottish Cup, surrendered the League Cup and seemingly faltering in the League.
Poor Ally Hunter, recalled after a year out of the side, lost a soft goal to a Henry Hall shot in the first minute. Celtic fought back well with youngster Andy Ritchie having a great first half in midfield and Paul Wilson scored the winner on his return with a fine volley. Tom McAdam had a goal for Dundee Utd disallowed for offside just before the interval.
This was an important win at a crucial stage.
