Trivia

  • The Celtic travelled home immediately after the last game of the Far East and Australia tour arriving back on the 2nd August.
  • The immediate pressing matter was the situation with club captain Kenny Dalglish who had failed to go on the tour.
  • A match presumably arranged quickly for Jock Stein to assess the fitness of players left behind when the party went to the Far East. It was also a chance to see the way the young lads yet to make a game were playing and to get thiose that had either played minimally on the tour or had picked up injuries.
  • The team comes from a previous report the day before stating that Dalglish would play. 'Temperley' is Willie Temperley a midfielder who had been with Celtic Boys Club and was signed sometime in 1975 and called up in 1976 and farmed out to Grangemouth and Bo'ness Utd. Ian McWilliam, a centre half, was signed from Queen's Park – he chose to retain his amateur status.
  • Noticeable from the team sheet is that Pat McCluskey who had been transfer listed the previous season was still on the books and training at the club along with Brian McLaughlin who had apparently been given a free in April at the end of last season.
