Players Who Never Played a Game M – Z

Ray McStay, 1993Any footballer signed up and ready to play for Celtic, is of itself tribute to their skill and dedication. These Celts have earned the right of inclusion in our hall of fame.

Some like James P McGuire, a Scottish schoolboy cap went on to great things, becoming President of the US Soccer Football Association and a member of the FIFA Organizing Committee for the 1974 World Cup in West Germany. Other like John Burns were simply unlucky that the boss didn’t fancy them. He was in the pub when teetotaler Willie Maley visited his home!

But they all have a story to tell, like those who were simply unfortunate to have been in playing positions held by all-time greats, especially in the years when there were no substitutes. Some were unlucky through injury, and some moved on to first team honours with other clubs.

But all were Celts who wore the hoops and deserve recognition as such.
