1st 1913: Celtic defeated Third Lanark 2-0, and completed the set to have defeated all five Glasgow rivals over the past month and not conceded a goal!

1940: Willie Maley officially retires as manager of Celtic and is replaced by Jimmy McStay.

2010: Irish international striker Robbie Keane signs for Celtic on a 6-month loan deal from Tottenham Hotspur.

2011: Reamonn Gormley, a young Celtic supporter who went to Thailand to help the Good Child Foundation/Thai Tims, is attacked and killed after watching a Celtic game in Blantyre. RIP

2015: Celtic 2-0 TheRangers, League Cup, first ever meeting between the two clubs. Griffiths & Commons score winners.

2nd 1889: Celtic 0-3 Third Lanark, Scottish Cup Final in their first season. It was voided & then replayed after protests by Third Lanark!

1928: Billy McPhail born in Glasgow.

1977: Celtic 5-0 Airdrie, Scottish Cup; Joe Craig becomes one of a select band of Celtic players to have scored 4 goals in one game.

2020: World Palindrome Day: 02 02 2020: Appropriately Celtic debutant Stephen Welsh is 20 and was born in 2000, and Celtic’s number 2 scored the 2nd goal for Celtic who increased their lead over Sevco in the league title race by 2 more points!

3rd 1909: Celtic Park hosts an Australia v England rugby league match in what was a pioneering tour for the Australian side. Celtic attempt to sign Australia’s legendary dual rugby code player HH Messenger after this game to no avail.

1917: Celtic 5-0 Raith Rovers; Number 53 in Celtic’s unbeaten run is a nap hand win over the Fifers at Parkhead before 16,000 spectators.

1963: Pat Crerand transferred to Manchester United for £56,000

4th 1952: Third Lanark 2-1 Celtic, Scottish Cup Replay: Defending Cup Champions out at the first hurdle; tie went into extra-time.

2012: Inverness CT 0-2 Celtic, Scottish Cup; Theme for the day was the “impending” doom for the Huns (expected closure, admin etc etc due to the tax case)

5th 1889: Meeting held to discuss the protest about the previous Saturday’s Scottish Cup Final. Final to be replayed on the 9th Feb.

2017: St Johnstone 2-5 Celtic, SP; Celtic 27pts ahead in first spot, note second place Aberdeen are closer in pts to Inv Ct at bottom of the league than to Celtic.

6th 1915: James Stokes was a recipient of the Victoria Cross given after a heroic wartime action, but he sadly finally fell riddled with bullets only 20 yards from the objective.

1954: Having fought back from a two goal deficit Celtic fall to a late Hearts winner as the Edinburgh club win a thrilling league clash 3-2 in front of 47,519 at Tynecastle

2011: Rangers 2-2 Celtic, Scottish Cup Birth of the ‘Broony’! A contentious match but less remembered is that this was the first Celtic match ever broadcast in 3D! A short lived experiment.

7th 1973: Andy Lynch is signed from Hearts for a fee of £35,000

1987: Celtic 3-0 St Mirren, League; Sunday Mail: “A slip of a lad called Mark Smith stole the show at Parkhead”.

2004: Hearts 0-3 Celtic, Scottish Cup; Future Celtic players Steven Pressley and Paul Hartley lined up for Hearts. Hartley was sent off.

2016: Celtic defeat East Kilbride FC in the Scottish Cup!

8th 1975: Arbroath 2-2 Celtic, League; Gate give way under pressure and a fan, Ian Hosie, is paralysed from the chest down.

1992: Celtic 2-0 Airdrieonians, League; Tom Boyd made his Celtic debut after joining from Chelsea in a swap deal for Tony Cascarino.

2000: Celtic crash to a 3-1 Scottish Cup defeat at home to Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

9th 1889: Celtic lose 1-2 Third Lanark in the Scottish Cup Final Replay, in their first season

1905: Early Celtic great Barney Battles dies at the age of 30 with pneumonia.

1987: Aberdeen 0-1 Celtic, Scottish Cup 3rd Rd 2nd Replay; played at neutral venue – Dens Park Dundee.

2018: Ex-Celt Liam Miller dies prematurely from cancer. Minute silence held next day for him at Celtic 3-2 victory v Partick.

10th 2000: John Barnes sacked as Celtic manager after less than a season in charge.

2008: Aberdeen 1-5 Celtic, League; Debut game for Barry Robson, who scored with his first touch

11th Japanese National day.

1978: Celtic reveal that Danny McGrain has diabetes

12th 1927: John Thomson plays his first game for Celtic at Dens Park. Celtic are 2-1 winners.
13th 1960: Celtic draw 1-1 in the Scottish Cup in front of 37,000 fans at St Mirren
14th 1891: Celtic 4-0 Third Lanark, Celtic win the Glasgow Cup, the club’s first major trophy.

15th 1950: Jock Weir scores for the Bhoys as Celtic draw 1-1 at Thrid Lanark in Second Round of Scottish Cup.
16th Lithuanian National Day: The small community in Scotland has given Celtic such notable names as Billy McNeill & John Jack, and Matt Busby to Man Utd.

1931: Bobby Collins born in Govanhill, Glasgow.

17th 1948: Celtic sign Jock Weir from Blackburn Rovers for a fee of £7,000
18th 1967: Celtic demolish Elgin City 7-0 in the second round of the Scottish Cup.
19th 1940: Ex-Celtic captain Jimmy McStay announced as the new Celtic manager, taking over from Willie Maley after 50 years in charge.

2006: Maciej Zurawski hits four goals as Celtic thrash Dunfermline 8-1 at East End Park to create a then new SPL record.

20th 2011: Celtic 3-0 Rangers, SPL; Birth of “Let’s all do the Broony
21st 1953: Charlie Tully scores direct from a corner in the Scottish Cup tie at Falkirk. The ref orders him to retake it and Tully scores again. Celtic win 3-2.
22nd 2014: Hearts 0-2 Celtic, SP; Fraser Forster breaks record for longest spell in Scottish league history without conceding a goal.
23rd 1924: Celtic defeat an Irish Free State select side 3-0 in a friendly before a crowd of 22,000 at Dalymount Park, Dublin
24th 1960: Celtic fightback from 3-1 down at half-time to draw 4-4 with St Mirren (aet) in a Scottish Cup Second Round replay at Parkhead.
25th 1891: Celtic presented with the Glasgow Cup, after their victory over Third Lanark on 14th February 1891
26th 2019: Brendan Rodgers walks out on Celtic!
27th 1961: John Hughes hits a double as Celtic come from a goal behind to thrash Clyde 6-1 in a league tie at Parkhead.

1965: Steve Chalmers and John Hughes are on target as Celtic defeat Kilmarnock 2-0 in a league match at Parkhead.

28th 2001: Neil Lennon is verbally abused and booed by his own supporters as he makes his first appearance for Northern Ireland since signing for Celtic.
